“There are 104 days of summer vacation and school comes along just to end it…”
When I was in school there were less than 80 days of summer vacation. Once we made up snow days, unplanned closing days and such, there were even fewer days to enjoy away from education and rules.
We treasured the days off so much, we never changed the calendar from June until the night before school started again, usually in August. So it is great to see that Phineas and Ferb have a wealth of time giving them the luxury to explore and invent fun adventures.
I’ll admit I’m more of a classic animation style fan, but in this case the art for Phineas and Ferb is perfect for the characters and the series. Phineas and Ferb are step-brothers, who get along and are even joined in their love of adventure, science and driving their older sister Candance absolutely nuts.
Any girl who has had one or two (or more) little brothers can identify with Candance. Often left in charge, she sees the boy’s inventions and creations at their worst, but somehow by the time Mom arrives on the scene, all is back to normal.
This sends Candance into unexplainable tantrums that the parents attribute to teenage emotions. They never suspect the little boys of doing anything out of the ordinary. Which any sister will tell you is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH! Those guys get away with everything when you are kids!
Phineas and Ferb are not bad, they are just inventive and curious, a dangerous combination! Their play becomes more of a “let’s see if we can do this” and because they are smart, they usually are able to accomplish their goals. As a subplot to the boy’s inventions and Candace’s attempts at a romance in her life, the pet platypus Perry, unbeknownst to the family, is a secret agent.
He is placed there to keep the dreaded Dr. Doofenschmirtz from working his evil ways upon the world. Agent P as Perry is known to his secret agency, has a wild life of espionage and crime fighting. Phineas, Ferb and the rest of the family see him as a loveable sedentary pet, never even imagining that he has just saved the world. Kids of all ages should enjoy this clever, funny, lively and entertaining show.
Parents will find humor in the witty dialog and the references to other movies, television shows and characters. Creators Dan Povemire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh have given us a family friendly animation series with a lot of punch.
Phineas and Ferb, The Daze of Summer is an original Disney Channel series. It is presented on single disc, with all five 2-part episodes. Included on the disc is a special feature The Googolplex Mall Science Fair with “outrageous” science experiment games. Viewers can play WDCTMM? Or What Do Candance’s Text Messages Mean? The World’s Biggest Baking Soda Volcano-inator and Phineas and Ferb’s Microscopic Zoo That fits on the Head of a Pin.
It is all fun and laughter, but never insulting, crude or objectionable. It may not be for the youngest children, as the stories are complicated and the dialog intricate.
Phineas and Ferb, Vol. 2: The Daze of Summer is now available at Amazon . As of yet, there is not a release date for the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
