“In the not too distant future…”
Mystery Science Theater 3000 is an acquired taste, says the resident scientist, and one that he doesn’t share with me. He can look down his nose all he wants, it won’t change my opinion. I loved the show!
It was a wonderful way to unwind from the workday, a late night treat, laughing at the silliness, and jokes and the movies as reviewed by the crew of the Satellite of Love.
This amazing fourteenth collection of the hilarity of MST3K is a welcome addition to the fan’s collection, or if you have never seen the series a good place to get acquainted.
From 1988 to 1999 viewers enjoyed the commentary of a stranded spaceman and the robots he built out of ordinary things who were forced to watch B movies as their only form of entertainment. I know it sounds weird, but it was very funny, witty and silly. This volume 14 has four of the worst movies with the best commentary for the audience’s enjoyment.
First up is Mad Monster, a terrible 1942 mad scientist film. Revenge is all that Dr. Lorenzo Cameron can think about, so he creates a serum to change his gardener into a wolfman.
Joel and Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot get revenge on the Dr. by wickedly cutting him to shreds with their witty commentary. Included in this episode is a short feature Commando Cody & The Radar Men From the Moon. If the title doesn’t tell you enough, you can just imagine what Joel and the bots do to this one!
Manhunt in Space is a feature cobbled together from episodes of a 1959’s television show Rocky Jones, Space Ranger. Rocky and his copilot Winky are out to rescue the beautiful Vena who has been capture by space pirates. This one is mercilessly critiqued by the gang, who also have the short General Hospital Segment 1.
Soul Taker is as grim as the title. Four teens killed in a traffic accident have only a short while to get back into their bodies before the Soul Taker catches up with them. Mike Nelson joins the ‘bots to give this film a thorough going over. The movie feature stars MSTie favorites Joe Estevez and Robert Z’Dar. Included on this disc is a new interview with Soul Taker star Joe Estevez.
Finally there is Final Justice. This film stars Joe Don Baker and is the story of Texas Deputy Sheriff Thomas Jefferson Geronimo’s attempts to get his Italian mob prisoner back to Italy for trial. Mike, Crow and Tom Servo aren’t about to let anyone get away with anything in their critique.
The program notes on the case say that this is one of MST3K’s most beloved episodes. Included are bonus features of a new interview with Final Justice Writer/Producer/Director Greydon Clark, and the appearance of Mike Nelson, Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot on Cheap Seats Without Ron Parker.
The four bad movies are individually packaged in keep cases illustrated with MST3K graphics and stills from the film. As another bonus there are four mini-posters of the MST3K presentations of these features.
Don’t let the resident scientist fool you, I’ve seen him watching over the top of his computer and laughing as hard as I am when viewing one of these delightful episodes.
