The Cheetah Girls - One World (Extended Music Edition) – Blu-ray Review

The Cheetahs are back, but one of their more famous members is away in college and not on this trip as the girls find themselves going to India to star in a Bollywood musical. The problem is that the fledgling director fails to tell them that only one of them can have the role.

Cheetah Girl Galleria (Raven-Symone) is away at college in England (actually filming College Road Trip is why she didn’t appear in the film) and the other Cheetah Girls, Chanel (Adrienne Bailon), Dorinda (Sabrina Bryan), and Aqua (Kiely Williams), careers appear to be stalled. They meet up with a director named Vik (Michael Steger) who is remaking a famous Bollywood musical called Namaste Bombay. All three gals travel to India thinking that they’re going to be starring side-by-Cheetah-side in the film. However, Vik’s frugal uncle Khamal (Roshan Seth) has only budgeted for one star so the Cheetah’s will have to audition against each other to see which one gets the role. Meanwhile, Aqua has been calling her computer tech support guy named “Kevin” (Kunal Sharma) who actually turns out to be in India, where all the tech support guys are now. So she gets a chance to meet up with him in person. Chanel is on the lookout for a boyfriend and she and Vik are getting close, much to the annoyance of the other girls who think that their budding romance will mean that she’s a shoe in for the role and Dorinda is smarting after being dumped by her boyfriend. The girls also help the male star of the picture, Rahim (Rupak Ginn), romance the choreographer, Gita (Deepti Daryanani), as well as sing and dance through this film. I’d not count myself as a fan of the Cheetahs, but since I’ve got an eleven-year-old daughter I’ve seen this Cheetah-rific outing on the Disney Channel long before it made its high-def debut. This latest movie does drop one of the girls since Raven-Symone has a busy career of her own and doesn’t make an appearance. I did find the Indian setting and Bollywood production numbers colorful and interesting. The plot however is a bit old hat. Call it “Three Girls make a Wish to Ganesh” instead of “Three Coins in a Fountain” as the Cheetahs put up strings in a tree and make a wish to the Hindu god. The songs are pure bubblegum and the situations are ones that you’ve seen before in these types of films. A different wrinkle came in the form of a busted controversy, but it had nothing to do with the film. Star Adrienne Bailon said that some naked photos of her were stolen off her laptop and wound up on the internet. It’s been claimed that the whole thing was a setup to try and put a bigger spin on Bailon’s career. However, it appears to have had the opposite effect as the Cheetah girls were cancelled from Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade with the usual “scheduling issues” given as the reason. Before you ask, those photos, whether real or doctored, do not appear on this Blu-ray. The movie isn’t too bad for an evening’s entertainment if you don’t expect too much from it, but your pre-teen daughter will get more out of it than the adult in the household might (unless you compare it to those formulaic Elvis movies you might’ve watched). This new “extended music edition” features the never-before-seen music sequence “Feels live Love.” Cheetah Girls One World is presented in a 1080p high definition transfer (1.78:1). The picture does look good and the colorful locations are quite nice in high definition. Special feature include 2 minutes of bloopers. The “Backstage Disney” gives you access to the “Cheetah spots” Blu-ray exclusive. As the movie plays you get exclusive content and trivia that pops up during the film. “Music and more” has 11 minutes of music videos as well as the ability to sing along with the movie, which you can turn on during the film or just play the songs separately with onscreen lyrics. The disc is BD-Live enabled (if you have a profile 2.0 player) but when I clicked on it all I got was a “this is not available in your area” notice (?). There are also some stick-on glitter tattoos in the case. The Cheetah Girls One World may please the fans of the gals, but I found it a passable musical. Don’t expect too much from it if you’re over twelve and maybe you’ll enjoy it. The Cheetah Girls - One World (Extended Music Edition) [Blu-ray] is now available at Amazon. I loved the TCG ONE World DVD. I really love them being in India and how Sabrina Bryan aka Dorinda in the movie acted in this and look forward to seeing her in more solo projects to come. I hear she might be cast in the Footloose reamake!!!!!! Go Sabrina!!

Once World rocks!! I like how everyone seems to underestaimate The Cheetah Girls. Esp. Sabrina Bryan, as I see you only have pictures of the two Cheetah girls. Love you Sabrina:) Anywhoo, I really hope there is a fourth movie and they get to go to Brazil or Asia. Growl Cheetah girls and esp my favorite Cheetah girl Sabrina Bryan you are all wonderful. Look forward to seeing you all at Urban Ball in Jan. 09

The Cheetah girls are the best and I love love there new DVD that came out. I bought 3 copies great for the hoildays. Sabrina Bryan love your book Princess of Gossip.

I love that movie. I think I loved the second one better because of Dorinda and her boyfriend in that movie. She is my favorite. I love her dancing and how she smiles all the time.
