The resident scientist is beside himself with joy, because the complete series of Knight Rider is out on DVD in an amazing collectable set. It even has special sound effects that will thrill the generation that embraced this television series.
Before letting your mind slide off track into those Hasselhoff jokes, just remember how cool we ALL thought K. I. T. T. was in the 1980’s. He was perfect, indestructible, could talk, and think, and whose prime directive (oops that’s another show but you get the idea) was to protect his “pilot.”
The story in case there is someone who doesn’t know, is that Michael Long is a policeman working in Vegas when an undercover operation goes seriously wrong. Shot and left for dead, he is picked up by the Knight foundation, given a new face and identity and a mission to fight crime with the aid of K. I. T. T. (Knight Industries Two Thousand) only the most intelligent and tricked out car to ever exist.
How many of us called or secretly called our first wheels Kitt because of this series? Come on, be honest, and honestly enjoy this great set. David Hasselhoff stars as Michael Knight, and is young and quick, an action hero to admire. K. I. T. T. is the perfect sidekick, no ego to wound with being second to Michael in looks, but man that Trans-Am was hot!
Through the four seasons of the show viewers were pulled more and more into K. I. T. T.’s technological wonders. These of course were tempered by Michael Knight’s humanity, and together they represented a force that was unbeatable. It was a modern day knight in shining armor (well, shiny black leather most of the time) fighting for truth and justice, accompanied by his loyal companion (which when you think about it is actually is more like the armor, since KITT is indestructible).
In any event it may look a bit cheesier than you remember by today’s film standards, but remember the stunts were all real, no CGI.
It is great to have heroes, and it is nice to see two of the heroes of the past so well represented in this set. Boxed in a flashy KNIGHT RIDER case complete with K. I. T. T. ‘s unique sound effects available at the push of a button, this is a fan’s dream collection.
In addition to all the episodes from the series, a disc is included that contains the Knight Rider 2000 movie feature. Special features on various discs provide an owner’s manual for K.I.T.T., and blueprints for his design.
There are featurettes “Knight Moves,” “Knight Sounds,” “Knight Rider: Under the Hood,” and a stills gallery. Disc one contains a commentary for the opening episode “Knight of the Phoenix” with David Hasselhoff and writer/creator Glen Larson.
This might just be the perfect Holiday gift for any guy born before 1980, and for a good many that year and afterwards. The resident scientist is busy planning how to attach the case to his office door…..see what I mean?
