For all those fans that followed the series through the eight years, the final season of Will & Grace is now available on DVD with some great extras to make it even more fun and collectable.
Consistently funny, Will and Grace touched on issues of human interest. Going far beyond problems of the gay community, (although enlightening viewers along the way,) Will&Grace was primarily a show about people. Not so much what they were, but who they were, their personalities, their quirks, and what touched them, touched us.
In this final season there were moments of exquisite humor, such as the episode “Von Trapped.” Imagine a New York Sound of Music Sing Along, Grace (Debra Messing) and Will (Eric McCormack) in authentic costume, and a mix up (of course) in theatres.
This event and the problems that were generated resulted in a green card wedding in a later episode that was given (against EVERYONE’S wishes) that special Karen (Megan Mullally) touch. The all-time worst wedding scene imaginable follows, just reminding us that sometimes no matter how good or helpful we think we are being, it can turn out badly.
In another episode “Buy Buy Baby” Jack ( Sean Hayes) has to share the spotlight on Jack Talk’s with a new co-host Amber Louise (Britney Spears) placed there by the big corporation that has purchased OUT-TV, and if that isn’t funny enough, Karen decides she wants a baby, and spends time trying to coerce Cricket the make-up lady (Wanda Sykes) to be the surrogate mother. From hysterical tears of laughter, we turn to tears of grief.
Death touches the group of friends, when Eric loses his father. Their last meeting was less than cordial, and Eric is beset with feelings of guilt over a damaged relationship with a parent, that can never be repaired. It is touching and hopeful as Marilyn his mother (Blythe Danner) helps Will to put it into some kind of perspective, and what he needs to do now with his life.
This leads to a finale that made television history for its ingeniousness and clever scripting, and absolutely perfect performances by the cast.
Will & Grace The Eighth (Final) Season is presented on four discs, and with a collection of special features that enhance the season. There is “The Final Bow,” “The Last Words: Final Interviews with Cast and Crew,” a season 8 outtake reel, themed featurettes on favorite topics, audio commentary with David Kohan, Max Mutchnick, James Burrows, and Eric Mc Cormac.
Always fun, sometimes over the top, but with shows that would also make you think, Will & Grace is a situation comedy treasure.

Will's father died, not Eric's.
