The Winchester boys have revved up the Chevy Impala and are cruising Route 666 in search of demons. However, a deal with a demon means that one of them is on a one-way trip to Hell.
When we last left Sam (Jared Paralecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester they had opened a gateway to Hell and an unknown amount of demons got out before they could get it shut again.
Sam was toast and to make sure that his brother lived another day Dean sold his soul in a deal that would keep his brother above ground, but it would also mean that he would end up in Hell. The boys now have their hands full chasing down the demons that got out and trying to find a way out of Dean’s deal.
Along the way the boys meet up with the shifty Bela Talbot (Lauren Cohan), a collector of special artifacts, and Ruby (Katie Cassidy), a girl with a knife that can actually kill demons, but she has a few secrets of her own.
You’d think that the series might enter a third inning slump, but that’s far from the case. Let’s hope that season four isn’t that charm since this season ends with one helluva cliffhanger.
The majority of this season deals with Dean’s problem, but there are some stand-alone episodes. The funniest and most tension breaking of the lot is “Ghostfacers” - which has the return of some old goofball pals from a past season.
There’s also a possible out for Dean in a doctor that’s been around since 1918 and still going strong, played with creepy efficiency by Billy Drago. Supposedly papa Winchester encountered our scary surgeon in the past and it’s too bad that there’s not more character development of the devilish doc.
This season also has some fine character moments for Bobby (Jim Beaver), a cross between the wise old sage and Cooter from Dukes of Hazard and my favorite character, besides the Winchester boys and the car. The way this season ends you’ll be salivating like a hellhound for more.
Supernatural is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.78:1) and enhanced for 16x9 televisions. Seven episodes have a small video camera beside them that leads to the “A Closer Look” featurette that has the cast and crew talking about the episode.
The 23 minute “From Legends to Reality” takes a look at the special effects of the show. The 5-minute “Supernatural Impala” looks at the third main character of the show - the ‘67 Chevy Impala.
There’s also an 8-minute gag reel and 16 hilarious minutes of “Ghostfacers Confessionals.” You also get digital copies of the season to download to your PC or portable device. Sadly, this season has no commentaries.
Supernatural continues to accelerate like a ‘67 Impala on the way to a black mass with shotguns filled with salt. Creator Eric Kripke must?ve sold his soul to the devil so that the show wouldn’t suffer a third season slump. You’ve got it easy you just have to go to your local video shoppe and pick this excellent series up.
