With the recent Olympics still fresh in people’s minds, and the kids back in school playing sports on a regular basis, the idea of being so good at something, you could make it your career is very close to our thoughts.
Her Best Move is the story of a young soccer player whose ability may give her the chance of a lifetime, but will she sacrifice other important things to achieve her goal.
Leah Pipes plays Sara Davis the sophomore soccer player whose dream is to become the youngest player ever picked for the National Team. Or is it really her dream? Scott Patterson is terrific as Gil Davis, Sara’s father, a coach obsessed with making his daughter the champion he always dreamed of being.
She is a good player, but is her father’s extreme ideal preventing Sara from enjoying her youth by making her concentrate too much on an impossibly high goal?
Sara wants to please her father, but she wants to have the experiences that her friends are having. Lalaine plays Sara’s best friend Tutti, who is well meaning, but who blunders with information and almost causes the friendship to end, and Drew Bell is Josh, the boy who really seems to understand Sara’s soul.
Her Best Move is a warm and very real portrayal of the intricacies of modern family life and the mine field of going to high school. The usual angst is limited to what probably is more common than one would imagine, the worries about dating and what to do with your life based on the abilities you are given.
This is not to say that relationship puzzles and deciding who you want to be are insignificant problems. They are some of the most important facets of growing up and it is nice to see them so accurately portrayed in a film that the whole family can enjoy. You do cringe at the blunders made, and feel a tear rising at tender moments in the story.
There are very funny scenes, and some that will bring back memories for the older members of the audience and entertain those who are closer to the age of the protagonists. I’m told by those who know such things, that the soccer scenes are very real. They are very exciting to watch!
Her Best Move is presented on single disc with either full screen or widescreen viewing available. It has a running time of 101 minutes, and has English, French and Spanish audio, and English or Spanish subtitles. There are no special features included on the disc, and it is rated G.
Well written and believable, Her Best Move has heart and soul and a message about being true to yourself that will resound with viewers of any age.
Her Best Move is now available at Amazon . As of yet, there is not a release date for the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
