It was a bold move by all concerned to put the story of One Tree Hill four years into the future for season five. There were jokes at first saying it was necessary because the actors were getting so much older than the roles they were playing, but for whatever reasons the decision was made, and the season worked.
Viewers could see how their favorite characters progressed or failed with their dreams.
So college is over, and the members of the senior class are making their way in the world of careers and real life. The first few episodes are used to catch us up with what has happened in terms of plans being realized or the agony of having lost the chance to accomplish a goal.
Remember your first day on the job? There is an episode that deals with “worst firsts” such as Lucas’s first day as coach, and Mouth’s first big broadcasting gig. Hayley’s first day as teacher in an English class will resonate with all who have careers in education.
The trauma and angst of first days in the first career job are familiar territory, but Peyton encounters a different set of problems being a newbie in a world of savvy professionals in the music industry. Good or bad, the lives of the Tree Hill classmates are interesting viewing.
