“Our worlds are in danger…it is our mission Hotshot. Jetfire. Landmine. Scattershot. Optimus Primus. Transformers! Robots in disguise…”
Transformers Cybertron: The Ultimate Collection comes to DVD in a seven disk collection.
In this collection, the animation seems a bit dated, and doing some research, I learned that all of the animation was done by computer. This seems to be a point of strife to fans of the other two shows (following Transformers Armada and Transformers Energon, but this should be ignored since Transformers Cybertron seems to stand alone).
I found the animation to be a bit difficult to follow at times, and my four-year-old grew bored with watching each episode after the song (you know… “robots in disguise, Transformers, more than meets the eye”).
The basic plot is that the Transformers are from the plant Cybertron and the planet is in trouble. To save their home planet, they must find the lost Cyber Plant Keys. This takes them to Earth and other places (mainly Earth) to interact with us humans (we look very anime, but again, this is the type of animation that was used).
The transformer Autobots met some kind kids who want to help. The Autobots battle the Decepticons several times with the help of the kids. Yada, yada. Good vs. Evil yada yada with the help of some squeaky-voice badly animated pointy-chinned kids.
Of course there at the good guys (Autobots) and the bad guys (Decepticons) and my four-year-old had to explain this concept to me (I was never into Transformers as a kid, ok!). It is the basic good-vs-evil that has been done since who knows when!
Transformers transform into all kind of vehicles, mainly the cars on the ground are the good guys (Autobots) and the planes and helicopters are the bad guys (Decepticons), or so my four-year-old informed me. Really, there are so many characters that transform and roll out I was a bit confused and still am.
Seven disks worth and I am a mess and my bag of Cheetos is gone and I am typing this will the leftover cheese stuck to my fingers. Take my advice and, if you watch this, do it in stages. A marathon just might make you a little nuts.
I give the song a “two thumbs up.” My son would come into the room after each episode and sing with the song, then disappear until the next episode. I, unfortunately, was stuck sitting there doing a review and eating Cheetos. I give the Cheetos “two thumbs up” too.
I like how the cheese sticks to your fingers. Incidentally, that is 52 episodes and 1144 minutes of my life a will never get back, and the family dog has gum stuck in his fur.
Priced at a suggested retail near $60, I would not recommend this. Sorry, but the animation is just not worth it and the stories come close to stupid (as opposed to ‘totally stupid’).
It is just one of those things, I think, that they put out there to piggy-back onto the big A-list movie they are making. Of course, I am not nearly the Transformer fan that some are, so if you are a die-hard fan of the franchise, by all means, spend your money.
But, in my humble mom opinion, this did not keep my son entertained and I am still trying to get the gum off of our dog as he licks my Cheeto-laden fingers while I type this. Transformers, roll out! Transformers Cybertron: The Ultimate Collection is now available at Amazon . As of yet, this collection is not available in the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
