Meet the Browns is another movie offering from Tyler Perry whose glimpses into the lives of families known to “Medea” a large and in-charge African American matron lady (played by Tyler himself) has created a new genre of movies.

This film focuses on the Browns, who were also in the television series The House of Payne as neighbors.Angela Bassett plays Brenda, a single mom living and working in Chicago. She is trying to live right and do what is best for her children, but a series of unforeseen events have put her at the end of her resources. In the midst of all her troubles, she receives a letter telling her that the father she never knew has passed away, and there are three tickets to the town in Georgia so she can attend the funeral. That is just the beginning of shake ups in Brenda’s life.

Traveling to Georgia, Brenda and family think they have gone to the back of beyond. When met by Leroy Brown and his daughter, and then welcomed into the Brown family home, she and her children are both baffled and entertained. They have never met people like the wild and crazy Brown family, and sister Vera, the family drama diva is determined to get to the bottom of just who Brenda is. An emotional dinner reveals that Pop Brown had some interesting secrets. After the will is read, Brenda returns to Chicago. Life is pushing her back to Georgia, and events will happen that, ultimately bring Brenda and her children even closer to the Browns. They discover that family provides a source of deep faith and love that they have never known. Of course Medea makes a cameo in a wild situation in keeping with her dynamic character. Meet The Browns (Special Two Disc Edition) is a wealth of entertainment and specials for Tyler Perry fans. There is a single disc with the widescreen edition of the movie, plus special features. These include “Meet the Manns” featurette, “Angela and Rick: Meet the Lovebirds” featurette, “The Browns are Born” showing the development of the wild family, and “Jennifer Lewis” Unleashed.” The second disc contains a digital copy of Meet the Browns that can be downloaded to portable players. The running time for the film is 101 minutes, and it is available in both Spanish and English audio and subtitles. This is rated PG-13 for language and sexual references.
