When Home Improvement first came to television, there were many who felt that somehow the writers had been looking in on their lives for their inspiration.

The relationships of Tim and Jill and their three boys were so realistic, that audiences immediately identified with them and took them to their hearts. Now the final season of that show is available, and what a treat.Season 8 was a little different from the others, as the boys were growing up. Audiences watched Jill and Tim send Brad and Randy on to new experiences, feeling the angst and joy of watching children grow up and move on with their lives. It was also fun to see Mark blossom now that he wasn’t overshadowed by older brothers. Tim quit his show and achieved another life-long dream, owning a hardware store. Perhaps this is a secret dream of many, because it certainly sparked discussions in several families of my acquaintance. As did the storyline with Jill like many women with children grown, began to concentrate on her career. It was empowering for women to see the “perfect” mom doing something for herself, to advance her knowledge and forge a new path, while her husband was supportive and agreeable. The laughs and the touching moments were still as good as in earlier seasons, and audiences felt that they had matured along with the Taylors.Home Improvement The Eighth and Final Season is presented on four discs containing all 27 episodes and the series finale. Bonus Features add even more fun, with Tim Allen Presents: The Home Improvement User’s Guide in which Tim Allen and Richard Karns host a live reunion special. In addition there is a season 8 blooper reel. The playing time is approximately 621 minutes. The liner notes include a message from Bruce Ferber, the Executive Producer, outlining the story arc for the last season and including reasoning for story choices. This DVD should be in every Home Improvement fan’s collection as a fitting farewell to the series. Home Improvement: The Complete Eighth Season is now available at Amazon.
