Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey star as a newly divorced couple who team up one more time for a big treasure hunt.
Co-starring Donald Sutherland, Ewan Bremner, Alexis Dziena, Kevin Hart and Ray Winstone, this is a wild caper that might even be familiar to the likes of the pirates of the Caribbean.
Tess and Finn have been through everything together, marriage, fights, making up, and breaking up, all the while hunting for treasure. They have been obsessed with one treasure in particular, a Spanish ship that disappeared in 1715, still dowry laden with emeralds, rubies and gold for a new Spanish Queen.
As Tess is finally about to achieve her freedom from Finn by divorcing him, he tells her that he has discovered a big clue as to where the treasure might lie.
Pursued by a villain called Bigg Bunny, whose henchmen are clumsy and inept but keep coming after Finn, and competing with Mo Finch another savvy treasure hunter, it is anyone’s guess who will find the goods.
No one is certain that there are really any goods to find on the tiny island that is owned by Bigg Bunny himself.
Kate Hudson is delightfully ticked off and wary, Matthew McConaughey is the man with a childlike sense of wonder and adventure, certain that he will find gold. Donald Sutherland gives a wonderful performance as the wealthy but somewhat clueless yachtsman for whom Tess is working as part of the crew.
Dragged into the midst of the frantic search, he and his flighty daughter are soon captivated by the idea of a treasure hunt. They are eager to provide the financial backing, supplies, and not to mention the boat, so that Finn can test his theory. They are thrilled as long as they get a chance to dive and search too.
Fool’s Gold is presented on single disc in widescreen format. The playing time is 112 minutes. There are some fun special features, a featurette Fool’s Gold Flirting With Adventure, which has behind the scenes looks at the stars and crew during the making of the film. Also there is a short gag reel.
While not as “serious” as some treasure hunt films, or as violent as others, Fool’s Gold is an entertaining diversion with laughs and some great lines. The history of the ship and its captain are revealed in true sea yarn fashion, through the discovery of old manuscripts that corroborate the local legends. It is a fun excursion, with beautiful locations, and enough tense moments to keep you guessing.
Fool’s Gold is now available at Amazon . It is available for pre-order at AmazonUK for a Sept. 1st release. Visit the DVD database for more information.
