The arrival of this acclaimed documentary to DVD is an excellent opportunity for audiences to observe what can be accomplished in the name of peace and human rights, in a place that has seen more than enough war and strife.
Through the efforts of six different individuals, we are shown how major changes for the better have come about and are being implemented in Darfur.
Have you ever wondered if there is anything that you as an individual might do to help the world situation? In this documentary Darfur Now, it is evident that much can be done by people who first care about the problems our fellow humans face, and then take time and effort to try and help.
One doesn’t have to be rich, or influential, and there are ways for everyone to support those who can make a difference for the people of Darfur. The documentary tells stories that are horrifying, but along with these events we are shown the grace and courage of individuals who are standing up for justice in their own country and in places around the world.
We are also shown the successes that are occurring because of their actions. This is an inspiration for anyone who wants to help. Actor and writer Don Cheadle is one of the six individuals who have helped to open doors for those in Darfur.
Along with his presence, we see other familiar and powerful people, such as George Clooney and Governor Swartzenegger lending their influence to helping the war torn country find a way to come back.
Darfur Now is presented on a single disc in ecofriendly packaging, with additional information listing organizations for education and ultimately for aiding the cause. This information is printed on the inside flaps, and is most encouraging. The feature is in widescreen format and is available in English, French and Spanish subtitles. The running time is 98 minutes.
Special features in addition to ways to help are an introduction and commentary by Writer/Director Theodore Braun. This provides audiences with an insight into the elements involved in a production of this type, as well as the efforts to aid those who have been harmed or displaced by Darfur’s problems.
Additional scenes not used in the feature are included. This would be an excellent program for groups such as young adult and adult church groups or older scout groups to view, as well as classes in sociology and history to watch as part of understanding the difficulties faced by many countries, and what can be done for them.
