Nice review - though the Gere character does not portray the elder Dylan. The character and the fictional town of Riddle are a surreal allegory for Dylan's Basement Tape/Woodstock hermit period circa 1967, as evidenced by the many allusions to Basement lyrics and characters during those scenes. Plus the Indians in the woods stalking him = the fans he was unsuccessfully trying to hide from.
