DVD Review: Impulse

If you were watching “Dancing with the Stars” when Willa Ford was a dancer on the show and wished you could see her naked then the gods of late night cable skin flicks have heard your prayers. That doesn’t mean that they don’t provide a double edged sword since the movie isn’t all that good.

Clair (Willa Ford) and her husband Jonathan (Angus MacFadyen) are trying to make a baby. Clair complains to a friend that their baby-making sex is going to get monotonous and her pal suggests that they spice things up a bit. Clair comes home in a black wig, leather outfit, and insists that she’s the naughty Lucia.

She attempts to force Jonathan onto the sofa for some “downtime,” but the officious Jonathan is more concerned about the veggies burning on the stovetop. He breaks off their session to dowse the blackening side dishes (missing out on the main course in my perverse opinion). As Clair sits disappointed over dinner she complains that Jonathan could’ve adopted the persona of say Roberto and played along. Jonathan promises to try better next time and is not happy that he disappointed Clair. On an out of town trip Clair sees Jonathan, looking a bit disheveled and dressed like a gigolo, come into the bar she’s sitting in. She thinks that Jonathan has finally decided to join her in the game and takes “Roberto” up to her hotel room and bada-bing. She tells Roberto that she’s going to be in New York next week and he should come up and see her sometime. The New York trip week arrives and Clair gets a message at the front desk with instructions from Roberto to do some kinky things in public as Roberto watches from afar. He shows up in her hotel room and things only get kinkier. In the morning, as they both lay in the rumpled sheets of the night before, Clair gets a phone call…from Jonathan. It seems that Jonathan has a twin and now he’s out to make sure that Clair is his lady and not Jonathan’s. Impulse is the kind of film that you could catch late night on “Skin-emax” or that would show up at the rental store and usually starred Shannon Tweed. I’m not a fan of “Dancing with the B-list Celebrities,” but I hope that Willa Ford dances and sings better than she can act.

I can’t believe that two folks could be so similar that not even one's wife couldn’t tell them apart. Jonathan really gives no indication that he’s into adopting another persona and you even wonder how the pretty hot Clair ended up with the staid psychologist. They ramble on about doppelgangers, but there’s really not much explanation beyond that as to how two Angus MacFadyen’s ended up in the world. If you want to see Willa nekkid then your wishes have been granted, and it is a nice sight I’ll have to admit. However, the movie is pretty stupid - not that admirers of seeing Willa nekkid will actually want a plot in the first place. Impulse is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) and is enhanced for 16x9 televisions. There are no special features beyond some trailers for other Sony DVDs. Impulse may satisfy your sudden, spontaneous inclination (or urge, as impulse is defined) to see some skin, but you really shouldn’t expect the Academy Awards committee to be ramping it up for best picture.

A disappointing review, as I saw the movie as being really great. I thought the ending was a bit abrupt, but I give it a A/B+, at least an A because it is an indie movie done really well.

I think the reviewer paid too much attention to Willa's body and got bored by not seeing it as much.

It has the ability to be nominated, Willa and Angus are really great at acting and really do shine. Overall, the plot is done well. The script is great and the movie really brings out suspense and emotion.

Overall, a great film. However, the ending could have been longer and more specific. But one of the best thriller/suspense films to come along...in a long time!

Two thumbs up!

Im a huge fan of Willa but this movie was horrible. I forced my friend to watch it with me and we nearly killed ourselves... Her acting is great but the movies plot is awful and its just not a good movie. Hope she lands better roles, im excited to see Anna and Friday the 13th!

This movie is terrible and Willa Ford is the worst. I disagree with the the poster who thinks she / this film can be nominated. Well, maybe a Razzie for worst film and worst actress (I use the term 'actress' lightly). Ms. Ford can't seem to be good at anything she tries. Crappy 'singer' and crappy 'actor'. This isn't even good porn - she can't even film a gripping sex scene. Go to 'Wiggles' and rent a skin flick if you want some entertainent.

Actually, it wasn't Claire (you kept mispelling her name throughout this entire review) that suggested that Jonathon adopt an alter persona. It was Jonathon. I think if you're going to do a review, you should at least get the facts straight. It's obvious you didn't pay attention all to this movie, and just wanted to comment on the fact that Willa was naked. That's not even a first for her. She did Playboy, so mostly everyone has seen her naked already.

I liked the movie and I liked Willa and Angus. Was it the best movie out there? No. But it was fun to watch. I think the plot could have been better, and they could have explained it better, but I've seen worse movies.
