DVD Review: Blonde Ambition

We all know the story, a cute blonde country girl goes to the big city, and proves that crooked city slickers shouldn’t underestimate the abilities of said CBCG. Jessica Simpson and Luke Wilson star in this play on the idea that looks can be deceiving.

Jessica is Katie Gregerstitch a girl from a small town whose Pap-Paw (Willie Nelson) gives her a ticket to the big city to visit her hometown boyfriend. The boyfriend is pursuing his dream to become a male model, and by the time Katie arrives to surprise him, he has moved on to other women. That doesn’t stop Katie, who calls up a cousin (Rachel Leigh Cook) to stay with and goes looking for a new life for herself in the city. In a short time, she is hired for a job and set up by devious co-workers in an attempt to usurp the boss. Katie surprises everyone. She has more sense and ability than one would ever guess. This is really a cute and funny movie, with many of the main characters playing against their stereotypes. Jessica as Katie reminds one a little of Doris Day, portraying the smarter than average cute girl who gets herself into crazy situations and is entertaining in her efforts to find a solution. She isn’t making silly faces and/or whining dopey one-liners, in Blonde Ambition Jessica is using physical comedy and some clever acting making the audience believe in the character of Katie. Others in the cast are equally fun to watch. Penelope Ann Miller goes against her sweet looks by playing the villianess (a back-stabbing, opportunistic co-worker) so well, one can imagine the enormous amount of fun she had playing the role of office “B.” Andy Dick channels Martin Short to become the perfectly evil side-twerp to Penelope Ann’s witchy behavior, and he is the instigator of my favorite scene of the movie. In order to undermine Katie’s efforts, he serves energy drink milkshakes to a group of kids at a company sponsored birthday party……the hyper results ring true! Blonde Ambition is presented on a single disc in widescreen format with a playing time of 93 minutes. It is available with English, French and Spanish subtitles. The special features include the deleted scenes from the movie, and a behind the scenes featurette, which has interviews with the cast members. The rating is PG-13 for some sexual content, but that is relatively mild. It is not Shakespeare or great literary comedy, but Blonde Ambition is a lot of fun. From all the negative things I've heard & read about how bad this movie is, I thought maybe this really was bad. To my surprise, I found the movie funny. It made me forget I just came back from the dreaded dentist. Jess was also funny. Not an Oscar material but then again, it wasn't supposed to. Jess' personality fits very well with this kind of movies, light hearted. Even a big fan of hers as I am, I don't want to see her do dramas. Don't think it's her. I hope Major Movie Star fares better as the trailers looks good.

I forgot to mention. It seems that the dvd is doing very well. I bought mine from a military store & the clerk was saying the dvd is selling well. So I guess she's still popular with the military folks.

I thought the movie was good. I had heard negative reviews but was suprised when I seen the movie for myself. I thought it was one of the better romantic comedy's I have seen in a while. Definetly ranks with
