When a guy’s fiancé dies after his proposal, he mopes around for a year. On a whim he proposes to a cute waitress at a diner and on a whim she accepts, so begins a comedy of marital proportions.
Anderson (Jason Biggs) is going to propose to his girlfriend Vanessa (Audra Blaser), complete with surprising her in a cupid outfit. He shows up decked out the outfit at a restaurant that Vanessa is dining at (and also flirting with waiter Morty (Mark Consuelos)). She so surprised by his proposal that she immediately… drops dead.
Her parents blame Anderson for Vanessa’s death and Anderson goes into hibernation for a year in his apartment. On the advice of his friend Ted (Michael Weston) to get over Vanessa, Anderson jokingly proposes to the cute waitress Katie (Isla Fisher) that’s serving them at the diner. Katie has some problems of her own as her mom Lois (Joanna Gleason) and stepdad who want her to marry William (Chris Diamantopoulos) who has proposed to her.
She really doesn’t want to marry the charades obsessed William so she decides at the spur of the moment to accept Anderson’s proposal. Anderson begins to regret the proposal, but Katie is so insistent (and damn hot) that he eventually decides to go through with the marriage. Not to mention that her dad Smitty (Joe Pantoliano) breaks out of prison to make sure that he can walk his baby girl down the aisle.
Wedding Daze is a cute film that really didn’t deserve the fate afforded to it. It was made in 2006 under the title of The Pleasure of Your Company and is just now being dumped on DVD.
True, it’s not exactly the gross out comedy that would be expected from an American Pie alum, but it is ride on the cute couple and the chemistry that the two produce. It’s more a gentle comedy but does have some rather risqué behavior from Anderson’s parents Lyle (Edward Herrmann) and Betsy (Margo Martindale).
You have to guffaw, I know I did, when Lyle takes Anderson to give him a heart to heart talk about marriage and it ends up involving a discussion of cock rings! Not to mention that Isla Fisher is so damn cute that you’d have to be a complete moron not to marry her. It’s a slight film, but in the end was a cute and enjoyable one as well.
Wedding Daze is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) and is enhanced for 16x9 televisions. Special features include five minutes of deleted scenes. Since this comedy was pretty much dumped onto DVD and even suffered a name change I suppose we should be happy that we got any special features at all.
It’s not as raunchy as American Pie, but it does have some funny bits. The lead actors, as well as the supporting players, all have a moment or two to shine. There are some bits that will have you laughing out loud as I did, but just don’t take it too seriously.
Wedding Daze is now available at Amazon . It is available for pre-order at AmazonUK for a Feb. 4th release. Visit the DVD database for more information.
