Oh happy day for antiques aficionados and mystery lovers! Lovejoy Season Two is now on DVD! This series taught us about recognizing antiques, and gave us a roaring good mystery at the same time. Ian McShane charms us all over again with his performance of the irrepressible Lovejoy.
Season Two begins with Lovejoy getting out of jail. He has been incarcerated for eight months, and in flash backs he tells the story. It is soon clear that he was wrongfully accused as he stated, and the viewer gets to see just how cutthroat a business antiques dealing can be.
Lovejoy is joined in Season Two by his quirky crew of friends who sometimes help, and other times hinder his attempts to make a deal. Tinker Dill (Dudley Sutton) whose boundless knowledge of antiques combined with Lovejoy’s seemingly instinctual recognition of the Real Thing, provides viewers with education as well as entertainment.
Then there is Eric (Chris Jury) whose good natured but bumbling attempts to be helpful, sometimes actually work perfectly. Finally there is Lady Jane Felsham (Phyllis Logan) who stands by Lovejoy in unshakeable belief and whose friendship provides much more than just society connections.
Lovejoy Season Two is presented on 3 discs with a playing time of 624 minutes. There is closed caption English for the hearing impaired. The episodes are: Just Desserts; The Italian Venus; Bin Diving; Montezuma’s Revenge; Who Dares Sing; One Born Every Minute; National Wealth; Sugar and Spice; Raise the Hispanic; Lily’s Pearls; and Black Virgin of Vladimir.
Special features are “Part 2 of Ian McShane looks back on Lovejoy” and “Interview with Ian McShane,” which add insights and anecdotes to this already loved series.
This show is timeless entertainment, and even with multiple viewings, there always seems to be something that you missed seeing before.
Lovejoy - The Complete Season 2 is now available at Amazon . As of yet, there is not a release date for this version of the DVD in the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
