Attention Nation, the best of the Colbert Report has finally come to DVD. Prepare thyself for the truthiness of this investigative DVD into one of the funniest shows on the Comedy Channel.
Stephen Colbert was a correspondent for the Daily Show, but in 2005 he left that lofty perch for the heights of his own show. He owes “Papa Bear” Bill O’Reilly a debt of gratitude since he patterns his antics after the occasionally acerbic talk show host and he even stops by for a chat on this DVD.
This DVD collects a series of “best of” episodes from the Colbert Report. In it we see Colbert develop the word “Truthiness” that was named the 2006 word of the year. Truly a groundbreaking historical event and now it has been documented for the ages. Colbert also has another groundbreaking series called “Better Know a District” and his goal is to visit all of the nation’s 400 plus electoral districts in the United States.
Some are glad to see our erstwhile reporter, while the representative for the District of Columbia, Eleanor Holmes Norton, is not exactly very happy to see him. He also has a green screen challenge where he’s shot in front of a green screen engaging in an epic light saber battle and allows the fans to download the footage and create their own videos using it in this non-contest.
It all comes down to two contestants, one on the phone and one in the studio. The guy in the studio is a flannel wearing, bearded fellow named George who may know a thing or two about the force. Not to mention that Colbert performs with Willie Nelson and Barry Manilow and even gets to know Jane Fonda up close and extremely personally.
Not to mention that he launched a 2008 Presidential bid that just recently was shot down due to paperwork difficulties.
Stephen Colbert comes off as a conceited, pompous, opinionated host and we love him for it since his shenanigans are hilarious. Every eyebrow-arched moment is a comedy gem and it helps that they went the “best of” route.
This has a tendency to concentrate the laughs and also does away with the reliance of the timeliness of Colbert’s reporting since the events he has lampooning might have dropped from the national scene and not seem as funny as they did then. They wisely stay away from a lot of those skits and mainly concentrate on Colbert doing his thing.
The Best of the Colbert Report is presented in fullscreen as the episodes were aired on television. There are no special features. I mean can’t you just be happy that you got three hours of hilarity! Jeez, some people are never satisfied.
I’m sure his fans would want complete season sets, but I think that this “best of” compilation offers some hilarious antics. So Nation, go forth and buy and make Mr. Colbert feel better about his scuttled presidential bid.
The Best Of The Colbert Report is now available at Amazon . As of yet, there is not a release date for the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
