I was very disapppointed--but not surprised--in this reissue. As another reviewer put it: extras? Forget Jake, it's Paramount!

Aside from the so-so featurettes (this film merits a full-dress documentary or two, while most of the principles are still alive and able to contribute), the remastering of film is too dark. I know it's a noir, but while the first version was too murky-gray, this one is too black: some scenes, such as where Jake goes into Mulwray's office the first time and encounters Yaleburten, are so dark you can barely see any of the background. I've seen this film in the theaters a good half-dozen times and it never looked like this.

But Paramount seems to treat most of its backcatalog like it's garbage, which is odd, considering they haven't done anything lately that's worth a sh*t. I wonder what they spend their time on...
