The complete fourth season of Showtime’s The L Word is now available in a comprehensive DVD set. All twelve of the episodes are included with a variety of special features.
In the fourth season, the lives of a group of women in Los Angeles’ lesbian community are further revealed through complex and multi-faceted stories. This critically acclaimed series shows the joys, the sorrows, the humor and the pain, things that are identifiable in everyone’s life.
These women deal with the bumps and breakdowns fate throws their way; sometimes they behave admirably, sometimes not so much so. Overall, the sense of sisterhood prevails and it is evident the shared strength, love and friendship are grounding or centering elements in all their lives.
In the fourth season the regular cast members Jennifer Beals, Janina Gavankar, Leisha Hailey, Laurel Holloman, Mia Kirshner, Katherine Moening, Dallas Roberts, Rose Rollins, Daniela Sea, Rachel Shelly and Pam Grier are joined by Marlee Matlin and Cybill Shepherd.
In stories that run the gamut from the horror of child abduction to the sorrow of military personnel recall, the awkwardness of first dates to the gentle security of long-time relationships, season four of The L WORD is a fascinating look at a group of strong individuals.
The performances are amazing, and the characters so well developed, that the viewer feels a part of the family. As with any relationship-based program on cable, there are unabashed moments of joyous romance and connection, and equally emotionally painful disconnecting and leave taking.
While the lifestyle may not belong to everyone, The L Word makes inroads into understanding and acceptance by demonstrating the humanity of the women first and their sexuality secondarily.
Presented in a four disc set, the episodes are in widescreen format with Dolby Digital surround sound in English and Spanish in monoral. The running time is approximately 8 hours and 35 minutes. Special features on the fourth disc are Sundance Diaries with Kate & Leisha, a free episode of The Tudors, a free episode of Californication, the Fanlib Sweepstakes Winners and what is listed as “Much More With the N Technology.”
Definitely an adult production and for adult viewership.
