The large family with close ties and loving relationships, not to mention the multi-partner family business makes one want to immediately compare this series to the classic The Waltons. However, that would be unfair to both series.
The Waltons is nostalgia for things the way they were or should have been, and Brothers and Sisters is definitely a current, modern entity. The Walkers are a family with all the good and bad exposed to our view, and we love them for it.
Sally Field just won the Emmy for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series for her portrayal of Nora Walker, the family matriarch. It is a well deserved honor! Ms. Field gives fine performances with such truth, humor, dignity, anger, or love, that everyone can relate. Most have either been a mother like Nora or have known one. The rest of the cast is equally gifted, and make the Walkers a family that we all want to be a part of.
The DVD set of Brothers and Sisters - The Complete First Season is presented in a six disc set, containing all 23 episodes. There is also an excellent collection of special features included. A special Bonus Episode gives A Different View of the Walkers, there is a behind the scenes featurette Walker Family Tree, Behind the Scenes with The Brothers, a set tour, and The Family Business, which has behind the scenes with the Olins.
Ken Olin and Patricia Wettig a husband and wife Hollywood team are responsible for much of the success of Brothers and Sisters. Total playing time is approximately 988 minutes.
Stories from Brothers and Sisters included a variety of situations and issues that are sometimes familiar and at other times almost exotic. With excellent writing and superb acting, these stories are presented to the viewer in a polished production.
Uncomfortable scenarios are not avoided, they are dealt with, as the viewers follow the family through death, grief, betrayals, and various life changes. As in any family things are not always bad, there are fair amounts of humor and joys to be shared. What makes this show unique is the representation of the learning process that humans experience through out life.
The Walkers learn and grow in ways that can be touching, triumphant, heartbreaking or inspiring. They are not perfect, and they are enough like the rest of us to seem completely real. Brothers and Sisters - The Complete First Season is now available at Amazon . As of yet, there is not a release date for the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
