Season Three of any adventure series is often the one that makes or breaks the production, and decides its future. Stargate Atlantis brings on a great third season with all elements working together in the precision of a well oiled machine.
Dr. Weir (Torri Higginson) and her Team Sheppard, Teyla, Dr. McKay, and Ronon are a solid unit, and comfortable enough with each other to explore more in depth the ideas of personality traits, humor and emotions to extend the viewer’s knowledge of the characters.
The special effects are even better than ever and enhance the story rather than overshadow the plot. As always the connection with SG-1 gives the, show additional background and wonderful opportunities for interaction between the two casts in cross-over episodes. Very good!.
Stargate Atlantis never fails to entertain, and this season has a wealth of interesting ideas and complex storylines, as well as technology one wishes was actually available. The FX people at Stargate Atlantis make it all look so believable! From starting episode to the finish, this season is full of action.
Given the vastness of the Stargate universe, it is no spoiler to say that Atlantis is faced with a new enemy, more insidious than the wraith, and a threat to Earth. In dealing with alien races as well as each other, the Stargate characters always embody the ideals of duty, nobility, friendship and service. Intelligence and understanding are valued above aggression and power.
The humans and their allies are able to defend themselves, but they would rather seek negotiations for universal good. These options are explored, and decisions are made with actions taken in a manner that the viewer has come to expect from this quality show.
The Stargate Atlantis Season Three boxed set is a treasure trove of goodies. Beautifully prepared, all 20 episodes are presented on five discs with each disc having its own set of special features. These include audio commentaries on selected episodes, a Mission Directive on one episode from each grouping, profiles of stars from the series, photo galleries and featurettes on aspects of the production.
The makers of Stargate Atlantis are experts and the box set of season three is an excellent way to see how they work the magic.
