High School Musical strikes again as Disney loaded up the majority of the cast on buses and played concerts in 44 cities. This DVD replicates one of those concerts so that you can relive the experience right in your living room.
What the back of the box says: “Be a part of an incredible concert event as the worldwide phenomenon goes extreme! High School Musical: The Concert invites you behind the scenes and puts you in the middle of the action with a spectacular “Extreme Access Pass.” Step out of the audience and jump onstage with Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu and more of the cast of the award-winning hit movie High School Musical as they perform their chart-topping songs in this sensational DVD.
Bursting with concert extras, including an amazing interactive feature that puts you in the director’s chair and lets you produce your own version of the concert. Plus, Lucas Grabeel takes you backstage to meet the cast, High School Musical: The Concert is an experience you’ll never forget.”
Disney knows a potential cash cow when they birth one. So, most of the cast of the hit Disney Channel movie High School Musical was loaded up on buses and had a concert tour of 44 cities. Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel are the returning cast members. The absent Zac Efron is replaced by Drew Seeley. They perform songs from the movie as well as songs from Bleu, Tisdale, and Hudgens’ new (at the time) albums during the 56 minute concert.
Well, they say that they’re performing them but several times during the show I noticed that their lip movements didn’t exactly match up with the music. They perform “The Start of Something New,” “Stick to the Status Quo,” “I Can’t Take My Eyes off of You,” “When There was Me and You,” “We’ll Be Together,” “Get Cha’ Head in the Game,” “Push it to the Limit,” “Marchin,” “What You’ve Been Looking For, Version A and B,” “Say Ok,” “Bop to the Top,” “Breaking Free,” and “We’re All in this Together.”
The Concert is presented in fullscreen. Special features include 13 minutes of Jordan Pruitt (the warm up act for the concert) performing “Jump to the Rhythm,” “Teenager,” “Outside Looking In,” and “Miss Popularity.” The 9 minute “High School Musical: On the Road” is hosted by Lucas Grabeel as he takes us behind the tour. The “U Direct” function presents you with 5 songs and you can chose one of 4 camera angles to view in the main screen (3 cameras and one backstage camera). Perhaps the most anticipated is also the shortest, it’s a 30 second look at “High School Musical 2.” Finally, there are previews for other Disney DVDs.
High School Musical fans will eat this up and will be happy to get the DVD. Some small special features will only enhance their enjoyment of the concert. Although others might be disappointed that Zac Efron doesn’t show up (he was filming Hairspray methinks), but the music will do much to sooth the savage fan. It beats the price of buying tickets to a concert.
High School Musical, The Concert - Extreme Access Pass is now available at Amazon . As of yet, there is not a release date for the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
