“Get it at Porky’s”
Director Bob Clark’s series of sex comedies are brought together in his set for the first time with Porky’s being a new special edition and the first time that Porky’s Revenge has been on DVD.
What the back of the box says:“Get ready for some intense underage action in this brand-new balls-to-the-wall collection of the Porky’s saga! The granddaddy franchise of guy comedies, these three uproariously unwholesome films changed the face of cinema to red as audiences across the world couldn’t get enough of this young group of boys questing to become men, and taking no prisoners along the way. Now for the first time ever, all three Porky’s classics are together in one bulging package. They say it’s never as good as the first time, but in the Porky’s Ultimate Collection, these films have never been better!”
Set in the 1950s, those horny guys from Angel Beach High are just all about getting laid. Pee Wee (Dan Monahan), named for his lil’ Johnson, Tommy (Wyatt Knight), Billy (Mark Herrier), Tim (Cyril O’Reilly), Meat (Tim Ganios), named for being the opposite of Pee Wee, and Wendy (Kaki Hunter – well she’s not so obsessed about getting laid). In their quest for nookie they travel out to the underground club run by Porky (Chuck Mitchell).
Instead of finding hot babes (“They’re so hot!”) they turn their money over to Porky and get a cold dunk in the river. They swear revenge. However, they’ve got other things on their mind first, such as the pursuit of the fairer sex, but they’ve also got Mrs. Balbricker (Nancy Parsons) on the trail of a intruding penis last seen in the girls shower. They eventually give Porky what he has coming.
Porky’s II takes place the day after our portly villain has been give his comeuppance and involves Shakespeare, religious fanatics, race issues, and the Klan, but not a lot of the sexual items that made the first film so memorable. The final sequel has Porky returning to avenge himself but also trying to marry his daughter off to Meat, but his time without director Bob Clark.
This set include Porky’s Revenge which is the first time that it has made it to DVD. It’s nice to hear from director Bob Clark who had tragically was killed by a drunk driver earlier this year (along with his son). His career was a varied one, being responsible for a family, Christmas classic (A Christmas Story), a horror classic (Black Christmas), a fine period Sherlock Holmes piece (Murder by Decree), and a horror/comedy (Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things).
He was also nominated for two Razzie Awards (for Rhinestone and Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2), so in each career a little rain must fall. He can also count on giving many young boys their first glance at the naked female form in the Porky’s series (well, the two he was responsible for but don’t expect too much flesh in Next Day). The first film can count on two hilarious set pieces – Mrs. Balbricker getting a handful in the ladies’ shower and the 4 minutes that follow it when she calls for a lineup.
The Next Day is more of a let down and doesn’t have the abundant nudity that the first one does. Actually Porky’s Revenge has more of sexual laced humor than The Next Day did. Porky’s is the only one given the special edition treatment but it is nice to have all the films in one package. If you want Porky’s Revenge then you’ll have to get the set since only Porky’s: One Size Fits All Edition is available separately.
All three films are presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) and enhanced for 16x9 televisions. Special features on Porky’s includes a commentary by director Bob Clark. Next is the 15 minute “Porky’s Through the Peephole: Bob Clark looks back” in which the writer/producer/director takes a waltz down memory lane. The 11 minute “Porky’s: A Comedy Classic” has comedians Dante Rusciolelli and Greg Fitzsimmons making some pretty unfunny jokes while talking about the film.
There’s also the 90 second theatrical trailer, 2 minute Porky’s 2 trailer, the 80 second Revenge trailer, a lame 4 minute sales presentation for the Porky’s videogame, and 2 television promos. Porky’s 2 has trailers for Porky’s and Revenge of the Nerds II. Porky’s Revenge has trailers for Porky’s I and II. I wonder if Porky’s II was supposed to have more supplements but the unfortunate death of Clark put the kibosh on that.
It’s good to see the films in their original aspect ratios and to hear one last time from director Bob Clark who was taken from us too soon. These discs are hot man, they’re really hot man.
Porky’s - The Ultimate Collection is now available at Amazon. As of yet, there is not a release date for this version of the DVD in the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
