You can imagine my disappointment when instead of Kim Cattrall dancing around for 95 minutes with nothing on but a smile, I got instead a “chick flick.” [insert rimshot here]
I can see how the comparison to Sex and the City can be made, but Cattrall is playing a character that widely varies from the one she played on the TV show.
Jaime (Kim Cattrall) is a B-movie actress (star of Cadet Academy compared to Cattrall’s turn in Police Academy) who is getting married for the third time. Her childhood chums are throwing her a sleepover bachelorette party. They’re throwing it at Georgina’s (Lora Zane) house and her live in lover Chris (Olivia d’Abo) is confined to her room while the party is going on.
Jill (Dana Delany) is the married member of the chums and her sister Rachael (Laila Robbins) and she are not on the greatest of terms. Marcy (Cynthia Stevenson) has just broken up with her boyfriend Randy (Glenn Quinn). All the girls arrive and the rather tame bachelorette party is enlivened when the girls start talking about sex (and maybe even the city). Each of them relates some incident from their past or fantasy lives.
The bacholarette party
I don’t know the truth of the facts but some say that this movie is what the TV show Sex and the City is based on (or at least inspired by). I can see how that conclusion can be drawn since both feature Kim Cattrall and are about women talking about sex. Not only do they talk about it but we get to see several vignettes where a few fantasies are acted out for the viewer.
Most have some comedy involved and they do feature some nudity. That in a way brings me to the “unrated” aspect of this DVD. I haven’t watched this movie before so I can’t really go into specifics.
From what I’ve gathered the original cut ran 92 minutes and this unrated cut runs 95 minutes. Seems to me that some more has been put into the sex sections, there’s a scene in one girl’s fantasy section where a guy uses his tongue on her bosom that I think might’ve been too steamy for the ratings board.
However, not having seen the movie before I can’t say whether it was in the original cut. One thing that I do know is that reviews for the original DVD release comment on how grainy it was. The original release was also fullscreen and this one has been given the widescreen treatment.
The picture is much improved from the description of the original and looked very good to my untrained eye and wouldn’t be what I’d describe as grainy.
Live Nude Girls is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) and enhanced for 16x9 televisions. There are no special features, not even a trailer.
Preparing for a three way with the Jewish Jim Morrison
I can see how the comparison to Sex and the City can be made, but Cattrall is playing a character that widely varies from the one she played on the TV show. However, this movie is a somewhat amusing variation on that show and does have a laugh or two. I do think that it’s aimed more at the ladies than a flick for gentlemen expecting “live nude girls.”
Live Nude Girls – Unrated is now available at Amazon . As of yet, there is not a release date for the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
