The boys of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour continue their funny series of comedy tours. The back of the box says that it’s the last one – say it isn’t so boys!
The Blue Collar Comedy Tour arrives at the historic Warner Theater in Washington, D.C. Here’s the part where I would usually do a plot description. Now that’s really hard when reviewing a standup comedy video. I can’t really give any of the jokes away. I’ll just say that the lineup includes Bill “Here’s your Sign” Engvall, Ron “Tater Salad” White, Jeff “Redneck” Foxworthy, and Larry the Cable Guy “Health Inspector.” Heck, I had to come up with something for Larry since his real name is Daniel Lawrence Whitney and Larry the Cable Guy is his stage name. Lawrence the Cable Guy??
That would’ve never worked on stage. Anyway, all four of these fellows have known each other for 20 years or so and have been touring together successfully for quite some time. They have their own down home style of Southern humor and each is quite funny in their own regard. I suppose that everyone has their favorite. I consider Jeff Foxworthy the funniest of the group, but I just enjoy Ron White’s sarcastic delivery.
Don’t get me wrong, both Engvall and Lawrence are funny too. I could be wrong about it, but the back of the box makes it sound like they’re ending their popular Blue Collar tours. I don’t think their Blue Collar TV show is on any longer (Ron White was just an occasional guest star). The solo bits are funny, but my favorite part of these videos are when they all come out at the end and riff off of one another.
This video has a funny part where their respective wives have gathered together embarrassing photos of each of them and they come up with jokes when they’re flashed on a screen. Ron White seems pretty pissed (alcohol-wise as well) when some of his are shown (but he always seems somewhat snarky).
Blue Collar boys together on stage
One for the Road is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) and enhanced for 16x9 televisions. A fullscreen version is also available. Special features include a 3 minute short film entitled “Yankee Doody Dandy” where the boys go to the White House and play a little joke on Dubya.
Let’s just say that it involves a dog turd, paper bag, and a match (and it’s a Dubya impersonator, you really didn’t think it was him did ya?). Next is a 13 minute featurette called “Molding the Minds of Young Americans” where the boys sit down and take questions from students from George Washington University. “Blue Collar Fans” is 3 minutes and has some of the fans being interviewed in the lobby.
There’s also the 10 minute “Behind the Scenes of One for the Road” that has the behind the scenes photo shoot of the opening credits and other behind the scenes footage. We round out the special features with a photo gallery and previews for other Paramount products.
If you loved the first two, then this next Blue Collar comedy tour is for you. I enjoyed all the sets by each of the comedians and if you’re a fan of any one them then you’ll also want to add this to your collection. If you’re not a fan of Southern humor – then grits and gravy and shut yer mouth.
Blue Collar Comedy Tour: One for the Road is now available at Amazon . As of yet, there is not a release date for the UK. Visit the DVD’s database for more information.
