With more than 90 minutes of guitar driven rock, John Fogerty: The Long Road Home in Concert is a DVD any fan of the singer/songwriter or rock in general will love.
The DVD features a concert performance that was recorded in September 2005 at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. Fogerty is in rare form throughout the concert and knocks out one famous hit after another with an energy that can give the young guys in rock and roll a run for their money.
The concert DVD, which was directed by Martyn Atkins, kicks off with “Travelin’ Band” and then Fogerty leads into “Green River.” He then slows things down a bit with “Who’ll Stop The Rain” and “Blue Moon Nights.” In between songs he shares stories of the times surrounding the writing of the song or how songs like “Lodi” can still reflect life today.
The DVD is truly a concert that fans of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Fogerty will enjoy. It is filled with a ton of classic tunes from Fogerty’s solo career and his days with Creedence Clearwater Revival. The singer cranks out classics like Fortunate Son and Proud Mary with the same style and guitar power chords that helped make the songs cornerstones of classic rock.
Fogerty rocks Fortunate Son
The concert DVD is being released as a companion to the 2005 certified gold album from Fogerty “The Long Road Home: The Ultimate John Fogerty-Creedence Collection.” The concert was also recorded in high definition video and mixed in 5.1 Dolby Digital sound which honestly puts you right in the front row of the show.
If I had any complaints about the DVD it would be the lack of any real special features. The concert does include a bonus video for Fogerty’s “Déjŕ vu All Over Again,” but nothing else.
It would have been nice to see some behind the scenes footage of the concert or interviews with Fogerty about his career and the reason for the live DVD recording. Some of this lack of interview is made up through Fogerty’s stage performance where he discusses the songs and talks to the crowd, but it would still have been a nice addition to the overall DVD enjoyment.
John Fogerty’s The Long Road Home In Concert DVD is full of classic rock, and the singer lives up to his legend. Fans of guitar rock will enjoy the performance, and the quality of the recording will make you feel like you are there.
I would highly recommend the DVD to Fogerty fans and it is worth taking a chance on even if you are only familiar with one or two of the singer’s tunes.
