Awesome book but early reports are that the movie is a complete misfire. I hope they're wrong.

It isn't a bad movie, but Jeff is right in saying it ISN'T a comedy. The previews tried to make it look more like a slapstick caper film, but it is actually a crime movie with some funny stuff. If you go into it, expecting a crime movie you will like it. If you are expecting a laugh a minute, you will be disappointed.

I cannot speak to how the book and the movie compare, having not read or heard of the book. However, they do mention that the book is set in 1979. The author even muses that if the cell phone was popular in '79 that his book would be 2 pages. The screenwriters first mission was to disable Charlie's cellphone since the movie is set in the present day. The author seemed pleased with the movie if that helps.
