DVD Review: The Beast of Bray Road

The film, which was also written by Scott and released straight to DVD from Asylum Home Entertainment, is based on “true” accounts concerning an urban legend about a werewolf stalking victims in Walworth County, Wisconsin. It follows a new local sheriff in the rural area who finds himself caught in a killing spree that is being caused by a creature with the DNA of both man and wolf.Like most werewolf movies, the film does have some cliché, but Scott’s use of dialogue and bizarre characters (who almost all seem like some version of Jeff Foxworthy’s “You Might Be A Redneck”) keeps the film very entertaining. The characters themselves are somewhat interchangeable, but the actors do a good job in their roles. You can’t help but laugh when the cops talk about the monster tearing people limb from limb and follow it up with a discussion about the BBQ rib buffet at the local restaurant. There is also a little nod to past films, like Jaws, when the cops discuss if the werewolf could actually be good or bad for tourism in the town - even if it is killing people left and right.Although there is some humor in the film, the director also makes sure that there is plenty of killing and blood being sprayed on the screen to keep the film gory enough to meet the requirements of diehard horror fans. The movie opens with the beast ripping a woman in half, and Scott makes sure that you are able to see both halves drop on the ground. This scene sets the pace for the creature attacks, and Scott never lets up on the amount of blood being spilled until the credits role.Unlike other recent werewolf movies like Cursed, the beast also is extremely great looking and is almost as disturbing as the creature in Scott’s Frankenstein Reborn.

The beast spills enough blood to keep diehard horror fans satisfied

Played by the same actor that was the creature in the Frankenstein Reborn, the beast seems really huge and is often seen in a quick flash of teeth, claws and drool.

The actors keep parts of the movie’s tone light thanks to witty dialogue

While this doesn’t ruin the film, I would have liked there to been a bit more mystery about what the beast looked like. The special effects for the beast keep it interesting, but some of the “scariness” of the creature is lost about halfway through the film. The DVD comes with some special features that fans of the movie, or other Asylum films, will enjoy including a behind the scenes featurette, a bloopers reel, trailers for other Asylum releases, and commentary.The blooper reel is a lot of fun to watch, and the behind the scenes feature gives you a look at how the movie was made on a smaller budget. It also has interviews with the actors and the people responsible for designing and making the beast.Although the movie might not be for everyone, I would recommend Beast of Bray Road to any fan of the werewolf genre, or anyone who enjoys a little humor mixed with their horror gore.

The movie does manage to make you jump from time to time

It is a bit lighter in tone than Scott’s other work, like Frankenstein Reborn, but still manages to be entertaining from start to finish.The Beast of Bray Road is now available at Amazon. As of yet, there is not a release date for the UK. Visit the DVD’s database for more information.

I watched this flick on Sci-Fi this weekend. Have to say it is a cool campy flick. It was funny, and pretty gory the 2 cops and werewolf guy were histerical! I do not think it is real though!

From my understanding it is some kind of urban myth that director/writer Leigh Scott built on for the movie. Yes the film is campy but that is part of the fun. Scott seems to always throw in some kind of off the wall humor in all his horror films.

Yes The Creature is still around. You can look up the info on the creature on the net. There is a site thats all about the Bray Road Beast. Linda Godfrey is the one who made up the site about the bray road beast. So look her up.

I read some of the exerpts from Linda Godfreys book and she really bashes this movie so last night I decided to watch it. It was awesomly gory and fun. It was great Sat movie for October. The actors were wonderful! The guy cop and the lady cop had some great witty dialogue together and the cryptozoologist made it ieven funnier! I will recommend this to my friends!

i would like to go live there and see if it would show itself around me,i wish i were one,but more like the one in bad moon.the police cam video of the werewolf standing with both claws out was astonishing,i think werewolves are beautifull,but i am dissappointed i would love to make a movie about a weretiger but have no idea how to go about it.
