All aboard for Robot City! With the all-star voice cast of Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry, Robin Williams, Greg Kinear and many more, repair for adventure as Robots is released by buy and rent on DVD and video on September 19th 2005 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
From the creators of the monster box office hit Ice Age, Robots is a visually stunning CGI animated adventure from Blue Sky Studios. Set in a spectacular world of recycled machines that have sprung to life, Robots is a colourful and charming adventure of fun and friendship that parents and kids alike will love.
Meet Rodney Copperbottom (voiced by Ewan McGregor, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith), born and bred in Rivet Town. With a passion for inventing and creating, every week Rodney has watched The Big Weld Show with his dad, dreaming of going to Robot City to meet Mr Big Weld himself. Rodney gets his chance sooner than expected when he inadvertently jeopardises his dad’s job as the dishwasher at the local grease café when one of his inventions goes awry! Rodney then leaves Rivet Town to travel to the big city to prove he can be a successful inventor and make his dad proud.
Through the hustle and bustle of Robot City, Rodney finds The Big Weld Corporation… but no Mr Big Weld! Mr Big Weld (voiced by Mel Brooks, Spaceballs) has disappeared… and in his place is Ratchet (voiced by Greg Kinear, Bad News Bears). A new model robot, Ratchet wants to upgrade all robots and stop the production of all spare parts for old models!
When Rodney meets the Rusties, robots who are made out of spare parts and household waste items, he finds in them true friendship and kindred spirits. Rodney, Fender (voiced by Robin Williams, Aladdin) and Piper (voiced by Amanda Bynes, What A Girl Wants), along with the other Rusties, set out to help the robots who are falling apart… and to find Bigweld! Up against Ratchet, guided by his evil mother Madame Gasket (voiced by Jim Broadbent, The Borrowers), it’s down to Rodney to save day. As he meets, and falls in love with, Cappy (voiced by Halle Berry, X-Men, Die Another Day), she is able to help Rodney and defeat Ratchet’s evil plans from inside Big Weld Industries. But are the bots made of strong enough stuff to defeat Ratchet and his army of sweepers?
Fuelled by a wide array of riveting bonus materials with an exclusively produced, never-before-seen four-minute Robots CGI short “Aunt Fan’s Tour of Booty”, the nuts and bolts of this DVD also include deleted scenes, interactive games, local dubbing features, music videos, audio commentaries and exclusive sneak previews of Ice Age 2.
Robots is a laugh-machine that’s even more than the sum of its parts. Additionally available on UMD as Fox’s first day-and-date release for the Sony PSP, and as an exclusive DVD double pack with Ice Age, Robots is one cog you definitely need in your home entertainment machine.
