Tartan’s celebration of contemporary French cinema continues with these great new releases.

NOVO (18): Edward is a handsome young man, who suffers short-term memory loss after a martial-arts injury. Every time he has sex he forgets about it an hour later, a perfect situation which can be manipulated by the older Irene. Comparable to Memento, Jean-Pierre Limosin’s sex comedy stars Eduardo Noriega (The Devil’s Backbone and Open Your Eyes), Anna Mouglalis (Merci Pour le Chocolat), Paz Vega (Sex & Lucia) and Julie Gayet (soon to make her English language debut in Richard Jobson’s The Woman In Winter). LES CLEF DE BAGNOLES (CAR KEYS) (15): According to director Laurent Baffie, “anyone who drives for 60 years spends 23 days of their life chasing after their keys”. In his Debut comic feature, he stars as our hapless hero who’s desperately trying to find the car keys he’s lost. During his series of misadventures, he encounters a whole host of characters and situations, featuring cameos from Gerard Depardieu, Daniel Auteuil, Jean-Marc Barr, Antoine De Caunes and Vincent Perez.
LES CHOSES SECRETES (SECRET THINGS) (15): Natalie and Sandrine are bored with their lot. One’s an exotic dancer, the other a barman. Soon after they start a relationship, they both get sacked. However, once they are re-employed they decide to use their sexuality to their advantage. When they both fall for the boss’ son, they never expected him to be more manipulative and amoral than themselves. Jean-Claude Brissau’s (Noce Blanche) handsomely shot drama relishes the sadistic pleasures of office politics. Named 2003 film of the year by France’s prestigious film magazine, Cahiers Du Cinema.

Thought their journey, they perpetually argue and make love. But one final trip into the desert leads to utterly traumatising events.
