THE WARHOL PAUL MORRISSEY BOX SET:
Tartan is opening The Factory doors with a parade through the cinematic galleries of Warhol and his long-time collaborator, Paul Morrissey. Having been brought on board to bring a new direction to Warhol’s film projects, he also discovered Velvet Underground. Classic indie film-making from the 60’s underground., featuring the legendary hustler, Joe Dallesandro . A mix of stylish realism, exploitative, experimental spontaneity, sexually frank celebrating Joe’s body in particular.
FLESH (1968), the classic tale of a day-in-the-life of a hustler who’s trying to raise money for an abortion for his wife’s lesbian lover. Riding on the wave of the sexual revolution it’s a self-conscious celebration of the underground culture.
TRASH (1970) a kind of follow-up to Flesh, follows a sexually impotent drug user and the trashy characters he encounters on his travels, including his transvestite girlfriend (played by Holly Woodlawn, recently seen in Milwaukee, Minnesota). Dallesandro’s usual virility is replaced by impotence.
HEAT (1972) an unemployed TV Western star seeks to make his comeback but an ageing movie star offers to help him if he helps in the bedroom. Her lesbian daughter also makes similar demands. A camp take on Sunset Boulevard. Camerawork that loves Dallensandro’s body. DVD extras include: deleted scenes, short films and behind-the-scenes footage from life in The Factory.
