EBay blocks pirated Live 8 DVDs
Jul 6, 2005, 3:21 GMT
San Francisco - Internet auction site eBay on Tuesday began blocking auctions of illegal DVD copies of last weekend's Live 8 concerts, the company said.
The bootleg recordings were fetching more than 30 dollars each, after they appeared on the website within hours of the close of Saturday's historic concerts, aimed at drawing attention to the plight of Africans living in poverty.
"The unauthorized copies of Live 8 DVDs we have been told about have been taken down, because the sale of fake items is not permitted on eBay," the site said in a statement.
EMI is expected to release the official DVDs of the concerts in the coming months, while several individual cuts from the show, including Paul McCartney and U2's rendition of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" are already available through legitimate digital download retailers.
