Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced the release date for Downfall: Hitler and the End of the Third Reich, the 2004 Academy Award Nominee for Best Foreign Film, on DVD will be August 2, 2005, with a suggested retail of $29.95.
Synopsis: In 1942, 22-year-old Traudl Junge (Alexandra Maria Lara) is selected as the personal secretary to Hitler. Cut to 1945 as Berlin crumbles and Hitler is in hiding in a bunker underneath the German Chancellery as the Third Reich is dismantled. Through it all, Traudl remains in her position and finds herself beside Der Feuhrer in the infamous bunker as the world watched. In addition to Traudl, Hitler’s mistress Eva Braun (Juliane Köhler) and his closest confidantes and colleagues surrounded him in his final days. Told through Traudl’s perspective, Downfall chronicles the last 10 days of Hitler’s life from his 56th birthday on April 20th to his ultimate demise. This film powerfully illuminates how the horrifying epic story of Hitler and his people played out in the end.
