Warner Home Video invites everyone back for a visit to Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, when The Waltons: The Complete Second Season makes its debut on DVD April 26th.
The five-disc collector's set will feature over 20 hours of content, including 24 episodes from the show's second season, and will retail for $39.98.
The television series that captured the American spirit of family loyalty returns for a another season on DVD featuring classic episodes with such notable guest stars as Sissy Spacek (In the Bedroom), John Ritter (8 Simple Rules..."), Victor French (Little House on the Prairie) and Earl Hamner, Jr., who made his one and only appearance in the series during the show's second season. The Waltons sophomore season originally aired on CBS from 1973 to 1974 and featured many memorable episodes including the two-hour Emmy-award winning "The Thanksgiving Story" episode.
The Waltons, which made its network television premiere on September 14, 1972 on CBS, follows one family's life as they run a lumber mill during the Great Depression in rural Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. Created and narrated by author Earl Hamner, Jr., the program is a reflection of Hamner's own upbringing during the same era, with his experiences re-told to the viewer through the eyes of aspiring writer John Boy Walton (portrayed by Richard Thomas). The close-knit family includes father John Walton (Ralph Waite) and his wife Olivia (Michael Learned), and their children John Boy, Mary Ellen, Jim-Bob, Elizabeth, Jason, Erin and Ben. Grandparents Zeb (Will Geer) and Esther (Ellen Corby) serve as the family elders of this large and loving family, who together face the challenges of 1930s United States while living on Waltons Mountain.
The Waltons enjoyed nine years on CBS and earned a total of 13 Emmy Awards during its run. Throughout its tenure, the series featured appearances by such up-and-coming talents as Ned Beatty, Corbin Bernsen, Wilford Brimley, Stephen Collins, Ron Howard, Jennifer Jason Leigh, the late John Ritter and Sissy Spacek, among others. In 1982, NBC aired three separate The Waltons television movies, while between 1993 and 1997 CBS programmed three additional The Waltons movies. Since its premiere, The Waltons has been distributed throughout the country and world.
