I would like to know what has happened since this article has been written in July of last year. Are there 'legal' Dvd copiers/descramblers out there?

Yes, you can make copies of encrypted DVDs on your home computer, but you have to have a decryption program that you run before you copy it. The legality of this practice is still being questioned and sparking debate between movie companies and consumers

I have 1Click DVD Copy 4.2, I also have DVD 43 , but when I tried to make a copy of The Pacifier, it wouldn't copy, I tried three time but each time it said it was copy protected. Why?

I purchased DVD X Copy Xpress 6 mos. ago at a very popular Electronic store locally 6 mos. ago. I was never able to download program onto computer due to not enough memory. After waiting 2 mos. for a programming to come to my home to fix the problem I then moved & built a office & installed satelittle internet service and re-connected my entire computer system. 2 weeks later my main drive crashed. Now it is 6 mos. later & I have my computer up & running. Trying to activate DVD X Copy Xpress with my License ID & password has not been successful. I have just learned the company is out of business and the product pulled from the shelves. Does any one know if other owners of this product who registered & activated their product before 321 Studios went out of business is still able to fully function with their DVD X Copy Xpress program? If they are still able to use it, then how can I activate my also. Is there any contact information available who I can contact to turn in my unused program for an upgrade that will work? Electornic store will not refund my money for this program I purchased due to their policy is only a few days to return a product un-opened.

To all:
if your having problems copying movies now adays, more movies are coming out
in the double layer format. If you don't have a +R-DL burner and the program
that will burn double layer DVDs' your out of luck.

there coming up with better protection on dvds.
i would recommend using a little program called anydvd.
it runs in the background with your dvd copy program
ie. 1clickdvdcopy and de-scrambles the protection.

i was planning on buying dvdx platinum but then backed out as my son told me that the feds might be setting up a sting on the net. I thought it was legal to make copies of my movies for back up is this not the case? Instead of the movie companies spending tons of cash to make the movies harder to copy why don't they just make the disk more durable so folks do not have to copy them incase they get damaged? The obvious answer is they want us to come back and buy it again.

What the movie industry needs to do in order to prevent movie piracy, they need to have a program that would allow a consumer entitlement to a free replacement copy of a DVD they own in case it gets damaged or scratched. Since the movie industry is too cheap to do such courtesy, movie piracy will forever live on. As for you folks who are looking into making backups of your DVD ‘s, one thing I am certain is that it is becoming very difficult to make backup copies of your DVD’s due to more improved copy protection of programs
Two major programs that I have found successful in the back of a DVD are DVD decrypter and the DVD shrink. Both of these can be found online for free and in order to find them it is recommended that you do a Google search. Both programs are user friendly and have been successful in decrypting and compressing DVD’s up to date.
Since DVD decrypter it’s no longer supported or updated it is recommended that you also get an alternate program such as Slysoft Anydvd since this program is known for keeping up with updates to new copy protection and aids Decrypter in doing its job. Slysoft however is not free but the price is not outrageous and the benefits are great.
Having a dual layer DVD Burner only gives you the benefit of backing up a DVD without the need of compression. The program mentioned above which is DVD Shrink helps by compressing the movie to fit in a standard 4.7 GB DVD and still keep a great quality with subtitles and interactive menus. Hope this helps, good luck and happy burning.

I do not see the difference between using software to copy a DVD movie or copying the movie directly from cable TV Movies on Demand with a DVD recorder.

I have done both. Is there a legal diffenece?

I have had DVDXCopyXpress since Feb 2004 and have copied approx 400 movies and the only time that i have had a prob is when the movie had bad sectors or scratches(hired) . Using a disc cleaning polisher helped sometimes but not always. Every movie has played w/out a hitch. It does depend also on the DVD player being used to watch it, quality of laser etc. Watching thru the PC are no probs either. I use -R and + R, +R now being the main disc as some of my friends cannot play the -R. Again, quailty of DVD player. I think DVDXCopyXpress is the best thing since sliced bread. I have never had a prob with a dual layer movie when copying. The only time I have had a prob is when the disc is 'rough', in which case I try DVDShrink 3.2 THEN DVD Decrypter as a last resort. The reason being that both programmes work differently. Decrypter has an 'ignore read' which makes it good for 'rough' discs. I have loaded DVDXCopyXpress onto another friends computer but it won't let him register. I will worry bout that myself when I have to load onto a new computer. If all fails, d/load Shrink AND Decrypter. One can try DVD FABXpress www.dvdidle.com/dvd-fab-express.htm for 15 days free trial then US $39.95. I tried it out. Quite good but did not get as Xpress working fine but may when cannot load onto new PC. Hope this helps :o>

Buyer Beware!!! I purchased dvd cloner 3 and it worked during the trial but now it doesnt work and I cannot get technical support to help me with this. I am considering trying to get my money back from my cc company because dvd cloner tech support will not respond to my emails. I have only had it now approx 2-3 weeks and have only been able to successfully back up about 4 of my disks. Also I have an older version of dvd xcopy gold and I cannot get it to work anymore as well. It worked great for a while but when I bought a new computer, I couldn't get this one to work anymore either and of course no technical support from 321 studios. I still have the original box with password but it doesnt do me any good at this point. Any advise?

THE BEST COPY TOOLSApr 4th, 2006 - 12:51:59

I have been using for some time now the following programs for copying DVD'S. I have not had a movie that I could not get an excellent copy of. These are all free except for Nero and it is very inexpensive if you purchase an OEM copy. I use DVDShrink, AnyDVD, VobBlanker and Nero. It is my opinion that these are the best tools. They work on all Sony and Dreamworks and Disney Pixar movies. AnyDVD has a limit to how long you can use it but you can uninstall it and clean your registry of it and reinstall or you can find a serial number for it. Best Wishes and Enjoy...

I have read alot of post's about not being able to activate DvdXcopy GOLD, PLATINUM, and XPRESS. I have the (paid) download version of XPRESS installed on one computer and the retail version of XPRESS on another. After upgrades on both computers, I can no longer ACTIVATE either one of them. I know that there are plenty of good copy programs out there, but after paying $59 for the download and $69 for the retail versions, naturaly I want to use them. Does ANYONE have a solution for activating this really good software?

I have read all of the past post's about the problems about DVD x copy and not being able to activate your reg code and that. I had the same problem a few years back. I did a little research and found out taht the dvdxcopy (321 studios) went out of business. I then had to find a new dvd burning software to use. and a new dvd decoder for the copy wright protection. Currently I use X SOFTWARE's Video Vault, there website is http://www.dvdxsoftware.com/default.asp I have been using there burning program now for OVER 2 years and love it. so much better quiality then the dvdxcopy program, for the copyright protection removal tool there are 2 different progams I use deppending on what computer i am on. there is the free program DVD43 there site is http://www.dvd43.com/ the other program you can use is SLYSOFT's ANYDVD there site is http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html and there is a 21 day download trial then it is $39.00 it will drop in price if you purchas there dvd burning software with it. there copyright protection removal tool is updated all the time and you get free updates all teh time. in the first week i had the program i had over 4 updates. I also went back to some old dvd's that would not burn due to dvd copyright protection and the slysoft's anydvd removal tool running in the background let me burn that dvd with no problems.

Thought that would help those of you who have dvd burning problems. If you are also not sure what dvd program to purchase i would check out the consumer first reviews site
http://www.consumerfirstreviews.com/
