Avatar gets a global release date for Blu-ray and DVD

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced director James Cameron’s sci-fi epic Avatar will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray on April 22nd – coinciding with the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day.

Written by James Cameron and produced with his long-time collaborator Jon Landau, Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoë Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Wes Studi and Laz Alonso.

The Oscar and Golden Globe winning film has become the highest grossing movie of all time with more than $2.6 billion in worldwide box office.

In the film, Cameron takes audiences to a world beyond imagination, as they follow a reluctant hero who embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization.

Avatar is described as a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the epic nature of the story.

As of yet, there is no information from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment on what the Blu-ray and DVD special features might be or if the film will be available in 3-D. The film will also be available on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on these additional release dates around the world:
