The fifth and final season of Boston Legal arrives on DVD May 5th from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, and M&C’s giving away four copies of the four-disc set.

It’s the closing season of pure legal chaos at the law firm of Crane Poole & Schmidt, as the final installment of the show that put a facetiously refreshing spin on the legal drama genre tackles timely and controversial judicial and personal issues without objection, including the 2008 presidential election, Mad Cow disease, gay marriage rights and health regulations for an unapproved Alzheimer’s drug.

Headlining the outstanding ensemble cast are James Spader (Secretary, Sex Lies and Videotape) and William Shatner (“Star Trek”), starring in their respective Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning roles as two unlikely kindred spirits among the brigade of high-priced litigators at Crane Poole & Schmidt. 

Matching forces in her Emmy nominated role is Candice Bergen (“Murphy Brown”) playing the vigilant founding partner along with former TV and four-time Emmy-winner lawyer John Larroquette (“Night Court”).

This final round of drinks and cigars includes appearances from previous seasons’ guest stars, Rene Auberjonois (”M*A*S*H), Betty White (”Golden Girls”) and Julie Bowen (”Ed”), as well as new clients including William Daniels (St. Elsewhere), Roma Maffia (Disclosure), James Rebhorn (“Law and Order”), Jane Lynch (Best In Show), Brenda Strong (“Desperate Housewives”), Ming-Na (“ER”) and Cheri Oteri (“Saturday Night Live”).

From prolific television producing and writing icon David E. Kelley (“Ally McBeal,” “The Practice”), Boston Legal tells the professional and personal stories of a group of brilliant, but often emotionally challenged attorneys.  Sometimes irreverent and funny, sometimes intense and moving, the series prides itself on being at the forefront of issue-oriented television, often addressing issues that are underreported by the media.

Fast paced and darkly comedic, the series confronts social and moral issues, while its characters continually stretch the boundaries of the law. 

Nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2007, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences recently honored the show with their Television Academy Honors, recognizing television with a conscience and achievements in programming that present issues of concern to society in a compelling, emotional and insightful way.
