Mama Mia! sinks Titanic to become fastest selling DVD of all time in the UK

Mamma Mia! – The Movie from Universal Pictures (UK) has become the fastest selling DVD of all time in UK – taking the top spot from Titanic. The DVD sold an estimated 1.6 million units in its Day 1 sales.

According to a Universal press release, the previous Day 1 sales record was held for 10 years by James Cameron's 1998 epic Titanic - which sold 1.1 million units on the first day of release in UK. In the release, Managing Director of Universal Pictures (UK) Ian Foster stated: "For Mamma Mia! – The Movie to become the UK's fastest selling DVD of all time is a phenomenal achievement. Its success is testament to the fun-loving spirit of the British public and the universal appeal of this wonderful film."

After a phenomenal summer of theatrical success which saw fans all over the world singing and dancing in the aisles, Mamma Mia! - The Movie is still in cinemas with the sing-a-long screenings set to be the Christmas party choice of 2008.Based on the Broadway smash-hit and filled with ABBA Songs you know and love, Mamma Mia! – The Movie stars Meryl Steep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Stellan Skarsgard and Dominic Cooper.Mamma Mia! – The Movie was directed by Phyllida Lloyd and produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman. Executive producers are Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Mark Huffman. Screenplay was written by Catherine Johnson with music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.Mamma Mia! – The Movie is now available for pre-order at Amazon for a Dec. 16th release in the US.
