By Patrick Luce Sep 2, 2008, 17:45 GMT

Academy Award nominee Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness) stars in this action-packed comedy as Hancock, a sarcastic hard-living and misunderstood superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public. When Hancock grudgingly agrees to an extreme makeover from idealistic publicist Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman, Juno), his life and reputation rise from the ashes and all seems right again – until he meets a woman (2003 Academy Award winner Charlize Theron, Actress in a Leading Role, Monster) with similar powers to his and the key to his secret past.

Will Smith soars in the “coolest action blockbuster of the year” with the arrival of Hancock on Two-Disc Unrated Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 25th.

The DVD and Blu-ray release will feature the theatrical and unrated editions of the film and will arrive loaded with bonus material. The “must-have gift for the holiday season,” Hancock has a suggested retail price of $28.96 for the single disc Theatrical or Unrated Edition DVD, $34.95 for the Two-Disc Unrated Special Edition DVD, $39.95 for the Blu-ray High-Def with Digital Copy and $24.94 for PSP.

From a Sony press release:

Two-time Academy Award nominee Will Smith (Best Actor: Ali, 2002; The Pursuit of Happyness, 2007) is not your average superhero in the summer blockbuster Hancock, debuting on DVD, Blu-ray and PSP November 25 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

The more than $560 million worldwide grossing film also stars Oscar winner Charlize Theron (Best Actress, Monster, 2004) and Jason Bateman (Juno, TV’s “Arrested Development”) in the action-packed comedy about an edgy, sarcastic and hard-living superhero (Smith) who has fallen out of favor with the public.

The single disc DVD will be available in theatrical and unrated editions.

Both versions contain extensive bonus materials including five featurettes, which take viewers “backstage” on Hancock.  Included are the behind-the-scenes documentary Superhumans: The Making of Hancock; Seeing the Future takes eight scenes from the actual film footage or B-roll footage and shows side by side comparisons of the conception during the pre-visualization creation; the special effects are highlighted in Building a Better Hero; Bumps and Bruises is a breakdown of action sequences in the film; and director Peter Berg is interviewed for Mere Mortals: Behind the Scenes with “Dirty Pete.”

The Two-Disc Unrated Special Edition DVD features both the theatrical and unrated editions of the film and all the bonus materials from the single disc versions, plus a bonus digital copy of the film, which allows consumers to download a digital copy of the film to play on their PC or PSP (PlayStation Portable) System, and two additional featurettes.  The added featurettes are Home Life, which shows via time lapse photography the building of the homes and buildings used in the film; and  Suiting Up, a featurette on the film’s costume design.

The bonus features for the Blu-ray High-Def edition includes all the material from the single and Two-Disc DVDs, plus BD-Live functionality and the Blu-ray exclusive On-Set Visual Diary, a BonusView picture-in-picture track with behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast, filmmakers and crew.  The second DVD disc contains a digital copy of the film which consumers can download to play on their PC or PSP (PlayStation Portable) System.
