Twister, the “terrifying tornado adventure that blew audiences out of the theatre,” will be released in a new Two-Disc Special Edition on May 6 by Warner Home Video. It will be offered in DVD and Blu-ray simultaneously, as well as on HD-DVD 3 weeks later. This action adventure blockbuster grossed more than $494 million worldwide during its theatrical release and was the first movie ever to be released on DVD. Now the terror of Twister can be experienced as never before with a digitally remastered picture and awesome bonus features.
The film will be released simultaneously on Blu-ray Disc while making its HD DVD debut on May 27, for an even more intense thrill. Twister Two-Disc Special Edition will be available for a suggested retail price of $20.97; HD DVD and Blu-ray versions will sell for a suggested retail price of $28.99. Directed by Jan De Bont (Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003) and Speed), Twister was nominated for two Academy Awards (Visual Effects, Sound). The film stars Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as an estranged couple who are thrill-seeking meteorologists with a passion for chasing tornadoes…those mile-wide, 300 miles-per-hour forces of total devastation.
In this adventure swirling with cliffhanging excitement and awesome special effects, the pair, along with their crew of fearless scientists (who include Philip Seymour Hoffman, Cary Elwes) are pursuing the most destructive weather front to sweep through mid-America’s Tornado Alley in 50 years. By launching electronic sensors into the funnel, the storm chasers hope to obtain data to create an improved warning system. But to do so, they must intercept the twister’s deadly path.
