Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the release of Goya’s Ghosts on DVD February 26th at the suggested retail price of $24.96.
The gripping historical drama from two-time Academy Award winning director Milos Forman (Amadeus, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) and three-time Oscar winning producer Saul Zaentz (The English Patient, Amadeus), stars Academy Award nominees Natalie Portman (Closer, The Other Boleyn Girl) and Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men, Before Night Falls).
Goya’s Ghosts studies the life of revered painter Francisco Goya (Stellan Skarsgård, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3) and his relationship with a lovely young muse (Portman). DVD bonus material includes a ‘making of’ featurette.
Goya’s Ghosts is a sweeping romantic epic told through the eyes of the celebrated Spanish painter, Francisco Goya (Skarsgård). Set against the backdrop of political turmoil at the end of the Spanish Inquisition and the start of Napoleon’s invasion of Spain, the film tells the story of the famed artist and the extreme duality of his subjects.
Goya was revered for his colorful depictions of the royal court and its people; while also capturing the grim brutality of war and life in 18th century Spain. When his beautiful muse (Portman) is accused of being a heretic, renowned painter Francisco Goya must convince his old friend Lorenzo (Bardem), a power-hungry monk and leader of the Spanish Inquisition, to spare her life.
