Rodney Dangerfield goes Back to School with new edition on DVD

By M&C News Jul 19, 2007, 12:59 GMT

Grab your books, pack your bags and prepare for an all new version of the famously funny college comedy - Back to School (Extra-Curricular Edition) on DVD August 14th from MGM Home Entertainment for the suggested retail price of $19.98 U.S.

An education in laughter, this uproarious tale features legendary comedian Rodney Dangerfield as Thornton Melon, the self-made millionaire who has riches, but no respect!  Desperate for a new lease on life, Melon decides to pay a visit to his socially challenged son Jason (Keith Gordon) to see what college life is all about.  But when Jason decides class is for clods, Melon vows to change his tune, even if it means enrolling himself.  After acquiring his admission through a hefty donation, the fun-loving slacker becomes big man on campus with enough dough to show everyone an endless good time and buy himself out of any trouble!

However, it seems to be last call when Thornton is threatened with expulsion unless he passes a multi-part oral exam. With unforgettable performances, Back to School enlists an impressive roster of laughs from a cast of side-splitting slapstick comedians, including OscarÒ nominated actor Robert Downey Jr. (1992) as the ultra-left-wing misfit Derek, as well as the first and last big screen appearance of the iconic Sam Kinneson as the shell shocked Professor Terguson. The film even contains a surprise cameo by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.!

The DVD boasts an array of A+ bonus features including all-new featurettes “School Daze: The Making Of Back To School,” “Dissecting The Triple Lindy,” And “Paying Respect:  Remembering Rodney Dangerfield” as well as archival promotional materials including the original news wrap “From Rocky To Rodney” and sports wrap “Rodney: A Driving Force!”

Back To School (Extra-Curricular Edition) is now available for pre-order at Amazon. As of yet, this version of the DVD is not available in the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
