Genius Products has announced the release of Wild Tigers I Have Known on DVD July 10th for the suggested retail price of $24.95.
The film marks the first full-length feature film from writer/director Cam Archer, as well as the first leading role for 14-year-old Malcolm Stumpf (The Next Best Thing); it also stars Fairuza Balk (Almost Famous, The Craft), Kim Dickens (Thank You For Smoking, The Gift), Patrick White (named one of the “actors you’re going to be hearing a lot more about…” in the May 2007 issue of Nylon Magazine) and Max Paradise.
The film was an Official Selection at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for Best Cinematography at the 2006 Independent Spirit Awards. It went on to win the Special Jury Prize for Originality at the 2006 Sarasota Film Festival. Wild Tigers I Have Known tells the story of Logan (Stumpf), a lonely, soft-spoken 13-year-old boy who doesn’t seem to fit in with the other kids in junior high school. Unlike his equally lonely friend Joey (Paradise), who is infatuated with the lives of the popular boys, Logan is fixated on the boys themselves, particularly Rodeo Walker. Rodeo is the only one of the cool kids who shows any kindness towards Logan. As they strike up a mismatched friendship, Logan’s infatuation with Rodeo grows deeper, and his confused sense of identity becomes more skewed. With some tough love from his mother (Balk) and guidance from the school counselor (Dickens), Logan must find his way towards the road to self-discovery. Archer’s script for Wild Tigers I Have Known was an official participant at the 2005 Sundance Institute’s Screenwriter’s Lab, making Archer, 23 at the time, the youngest participant in the lab. Shortly after, the young talent approached Gus Van Sant, who had been a fan of Archer’s short films, asking him to attach his name as an executive and he agreed. Along with close friend and cinematographer Aaron Platt, who was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for his work on this film, Archer began to paint his vivid portrait of adolescent daydreams and sexuality, to great effect. Wild Tigers I Have Known is now available for pre-order at Amazon . As of yet, there is not a release date for the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
