Emmy winning cop drama “The Shield” returns to DVD with Season Five

By Patrick Luce Mar 25, 2007, 17:44 GMT

The “most unpredictable and gripping” cop drama on television and FX’s longest-running original series starring Emmy Award winner Michael Chiklis returns when “The Shield” Season Five DVD collection arrives March 27th from Fox Home Entertainment for the suggested retail price of $59.98.

Unconventional in every way, “The Shield” redefines good and evil with a gritty, nuanced examination of life as a cop. Played out in a tough, morally ambiguous world in which the line between good and bad is crossed everyday, “The Shield” follows Detective Vic Mackey (Chiklis) as he's brought face-to-face with his past actions.

Hailed by critics as the series’ best year to date, Season Five was highlighted by the addition of Emmy Award winner Forest  Whitaker, one of Hollywood’s most accomplished actors/directors/producers, into a special starring role as Internal Affairs investigator Jon Kavanaugh, who comes to The Barn with the sole intent to bring down Mackey and his Strike Team.

“The Shield” Season Five DVD arrives in a collectable four-disc set including all 11 episodes from the fifth season along with a season six prequel that serves as a bridge between the season five cliff-hanger and its highly-anticipated resolution, plus deleted scenes, commentary by creator Shawn Ryan and behind-the-scenes featurettes.

Synopsis:
As the Strike Team attempts to defuse racial tensions in the neighborhood friction inside The Barn escalates with the arrival of Lieutenant Jon Kavanaugh, an ambitious and menacing Internal Affairs officer determined to bring down Vic Mackey.  Kavanaugh interrogates Mackey’s allies and foes in an effort to either weaken their  loyalty or uncover incriminating evidence.

In the midst of all this uneasiness and mistrust Dutch and Claudette’s work relationship becomes strained, Danny refuses to reveal the father of her baby and Julien struggles after he’s partnered with a bumbling rookie cop.
