Little Miss Sunshine comes to DVD in December

By Patrick Luce Nov 15, 2006, 19:55 GMT

Throw out your anti-depressants and hop on the bus with the feel-good comedy of the year Little Miss Sunshine, the “achingly hilarious” (Vanity Fair) American family vacation movie that breaks all the rules of the road along the way.

The runaway hit of the Sundance Film Festival that has become the crowd-pleasing sleeper hit film of the year, grossing over $57 million box office to date, Little Miss Sunshine debuts December 19 on DVD from Fox Home Entertainment.

Featuring an all-star cast of today’s most versatile actors including Steve Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin, “The Office”), Greg Kinnear (As Good As It Gets, Fast Food Nation), Toni Collette (In Her Shoes, The Sixth Sense), Alan Arkin (Firewall), Paul Dano (The Girl Next Door) and the adorable young talent Abigail Breslin, Little Miss Sunshine is the brazenly satirical and yet deeply human comedy.

Presented together in both widescreen and full screen versions, the Little Miss Sunshine DVD is van-packed with bonus materials, including two audio commentaries, four alternate endings with optional audio commentary and DeVotchka music video from the soundtrack.  The Little Miss Sunshine DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $29.98.

Take a hilarious ride with the Hoovers, one of the most endearingly fractured families in comedy history.  Father Richard (Kinnear) is desperately trying to sell his motivational success program...with no success. Meanwhile, “pro-honesty” mom Sheryl (Collette) lends support to her eccentric family, including her depressed brother (Carell), fresh out of the hospital after being jilted by his lover.

Then there are the younger Hoovers—the seven-year-old, would-be beauty queen Olive (Breslin) and Dwayne (Dano), a Nietzsche-reading teen who has taken a vow of silence. Topping off the family is the foul-mouthed grandfather (Arkin), whose outrageous behavior recently got him evicted from his retirement home.

When Olive is invited to compete in the “Little Miss Sunshine” pageant in far-off California, the family piles into their rusted-out VW bus to rally behind her—with riotously funny results.

The Little Miss Sunshine DVD is presented in both widescreen (1.85:1) and full screen (1.33:1) features on a flipper disc, with English Dolby Surround 5.1 and Spanish Dolby Surround along with English, French and Spanish subtitles.

Additional bonus features include:
Audio commentary with co-directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris
Audio commentary with co-directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris along with writer Michael Arndt
Four alternate endings with optional audio commentary
Music video for DeVotchka’s “Till The End Of Time”

Little Miss Sunshine is now available for pre-order at Amazon.  As of yet, there is not a release date for the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
