During the 2006 Grammy week in Los Angeles, MusiCares brought together a group of legendary artists to pay tribute to James Taylor and his famous works at their annual Person of the Year gala. The event honored Taylor for his outstanding contributions to the world of music and for his exemplary philanthropic efforts. The amazing lineup featured Taylor’s friends and contemporaries performing great songs from his catalogue of music.
The highlights of this exclusive music industry evening - from The Dixie Chicks performing “Shower the People” and Jackson Browne, David Crosby and Sheryl Crow joining in for “Mexico” to Bruce Springsteen’s rendition of “Millworker” and Taylor himself singing his classics “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” and “Fire and Rain” – are now featured on a special DVD available on Oct. 3rd for the suggested retail price of $19.95. The net proceeds from the sale and distribution of this DVD will benefit MusiCares’ health and human service and addiction recovery programs for music people in times of crisis.
James Taylor’s impressive musical legacy and his sense of compassion toward humanity represent the artistic talents and social awareness that mark all MusiCares Person of the Year honorees. He joins an exemplary list of previous honorees that includes Tony Bennett, Bono, Natalie Cole, Phil Collins, David Crosby, Gloria Estefan, Billy Joel, Elton John, Quincy Jones, Luciano Pavarotti, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Simon, Sting, Brian Wilson, and Stevie Wonder.
Artistic success has allowed James to lend his voice and time to various important social causes. He has remained driven and passionate through his work protecting the environment via the Natural Resources Defense Council, where he is an active board member; supporting funding and research for children’s health-related issues, such as juvenile diabetes; campaigning for funding for various arts initiatives; and calling attention to the needs of those less fortunate.
James Taylor: A Musicares Person of the Year Tribute is now available for pre-order at Amazon. As of yet, there is not a release date for the UK. Visit the DVD database for more information.
