The X-Men take their “Last Stand” on DVD in October

By Patrick Luce Jul 29, 2006, 1:04 GMT

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced X-Men: The Last Stand will be coming to DVD on October 3rd in both a standard DVD and collector’s edition. The DVD will also be available in a special three disc set that collects all three films.

Both editions will include two audio commentaries with director Brett Ratner, the writers and the producers, "Ten deleted scenes," "Three alternate endings (each with optional commentary by Ratner)," "Two Easter Eggs (Beast reciting Shakespeare and the X-Jet landing in Washington D.C.)" and "Trailers."  Along with special box art, the collector’s edition will also include an "Exclusive 100-page commemorative book featuring an all-new story written by Stan Lee."

In the film, The X-Men, mutant heroes sworn to defend a world that hates and fears them, must face evolution itself in the form of their former teammate, Jean Grey. Possessed with the cosmic power of the Dark Phoenix, the resurrected Jean Grey has become a danger to herself, her mutant comrades, and the entire planet.

To stave off this imminent threat to humanity, a potential cure is discovered and processed to treat - and ultimately eliminate - genetic mutations once and for all. As the battle lines are drawn, the X-Men, led by Professor Charles Xavier, are aided by new recruits like The Beast and Angel. Together they must contend with Grey's new powers, as well as the malevolent Brotherhood - a band of powerful mutants organized under Xavier's former ally, Magneto.
