Director Andy Garcia takes audiences into the heart of Havana on a turbulent and lyrical voyage in The Lost City - utilizing the rich culture of music, literature and dance to weave a narrative tapestry as enchanting as it is compelling. Debuting on DVD on August 8th from Magnolia Home Entertainment with the suggested retail price of $26.98.
The Lost City celebrates the music of 1950’s Havana with over 40 songs capturing the electricity and unique rhythm that made Havana the pearl of the Antilles. The ‘residents’ of The Lost City include Bill Murray, Dustin Hoffman, Inés Sastre and many talented others who help Garcia tell the story of city changed and lost by revolution. The Lost City, written by Cuban legend Guillermo Cabrera Infante, stars Garcia and features a host of renowned behind-the-scenes talent.
The story unveils in El Tropico, a nightclub roughly modeled after Havana’s famous Tropicana, as proprietor Fico Fellove (Garcia) tries to hold his family together during the murderous reign of dictator Fulgencio Batista. In order to maintain his freedom Fico must leave everything he loves behind.
Havana in 1958 is a place of pleasure for many, but others are not happy under the rule of dictator Fulgencio Batista. As the revolutionary forces of Fidel Castro and Ernesto “Che” Guevara prepare to move on the city, Fico Fellove (Garcia) - owner of the city’s classiest music nightclub, El Tropico - struggles to hold together his family and the love of a woman (Sastre).
Observing all is the Comedian/Writer (Murray), an ex-patriot American who sees his friend Fico being drawn into events as the revolution changes everything. Though Fico watches a culture vanish and a people transformed, it is his love of Cuban music that keeps his memories alive.
The Lost City DVD includes bonus features such as a “Making-Of,” deleted scenes and director commentary.
